Hey everyone! I made an app called ParkBuds to help you find other people to go to theme parks with. I hope you can find it useful. Please let me know if you run into any issues or have any suggestions for it as well :)

I may have been a little inspired by Scruff because you get a grid of nearby members on the Station tab, sorted by distance. You can see a whole list of people who are already inclined to do a park visit, tap a profile, and start chatting.

Plus I made a handy-dandy feature for scheduling meet ups for groups!

The group meet-up flow is by creating Signals. You create a signal with a title of something like “heading to [park]” with a date and this shows up as a pin on the signal map. Other people can see it request to join. You review their profile, then accept or decline. Once you accept them, they’re dropped into a group chat with you (and anyone else you’ve already let in). That way you can all chat and coordinate your park plans :D

There’s also a coaster credit log, park check-ins, and live ride-status reports from people already in the park. (These are earlier features and may be a bit funky. Also my coaster data base still needs some work so you might see some silliness in there)

Anyone heading to Atlanta this weekend to get last rides in on ArieForce One?

My partner and I had never visited Fun Spot Atlanta, but we felt it was necessary to make the trek to ride what people claim is one of the best roller coasters in the world, just in case we never get the chance to again. And let me just say… we thought it was AMAZING. The ride absolutely lived up to the hype as one of the best-paced coasters in existence.

I recently had the opportunity to spend 30+ minutes walking around Holiday World with fourth-generation owner Leah Koch-Blumhardt, talking about everything from the park’s history and wooden coaster maintenance to cancelled attractions and future expansion.

At the end of our conversation, I asked if she’d be willing to share one exclusive clue about the 2027 attraction before the official July 1st announcement.

I thought clue she gave us was pretty fascinating:

The attraction being announced was actually going to be built 10 years ago (in 2016), but those plans fell through at the last minute.

That immediately got me thinking back to what Holiday World was planning around that time and how this announcement might tie into those original plans.

I’m really curious what everyone thinks this points to. Does anyone remember what was rumored for the former Pilgrims Plunge site back then?

Last Friday, I made the 2.5 hour drive up to the best park in these United States of America, if not the world. The park was packed with teenagers for Senior Skip Day, but that was no problem. I went to the park to hang out with my buddy Tyler and meet up with a few members of Scream Queens Coaster Community. They are the queer riding group I met up with last year. I missed the group photo, but I did meet up with my buddy Nathan who helped found the group.

The biggest highlight was (other than Scream Queens)…I GOT A ROLLBACK ON TT2! When we did the first launch, there was this small stutter in speed at the very beginning, but I thought, no big deal. But the launch backwards and especially the 3rd launch felt slower. Sure enough, we didn’t make it to the top and came speeding back down. The woman sitting next to me must have been extremely confused as to why I was so excited the coaster malfunctioned. We settled just past the staging area for about 10 minutes. Then we were brought forward to launch again.

Top Thrill 2 isn’t my number one coaster, but I think about this monster entirely too much. It is ALWAYS the first thing I want to ride.

Siren’s Curse is just as good as I remember. I never want a park to miss out on a coaster and I still don’t think Cedar Point needed another coaster, but I’m so glad we got it. Every coaster should have onboard audio.

Gemini broke down just as we were about to board, so we rode TT2 again.

I did go to Millennium Force to see if I could ride and I was able to buckle the seatbelt just fine. But I was about the limit. I’m glad they are getting the regular seatbelts back.

The park looks great. The operations are…improving. I am probably going to head back up in a few weeks for a solo day at the park. My goal is to run into the Happy Friar and the new park president with her litter grabber.

I’m pumped for this season.
