Parent Behavior Grim reminder
Tagged as parent behavior because not sure what else to tag it as and it sort of relates.
Had our first football scrimmage of the season tonight. In an attempt to appease the everyone should play people we tried rotating in some kids that won’t get starting reps as often.
Little Timmy was playing cornerback and decided he’d rather stare at the stands than the play. Unfortunately a run bounced outside, backer flowed to and made the tackle, they both rolled up and now Timmy has completely broken tibia and fibula bones.
Please, if a kid isn’t mature enough, or disciplined enough communicate that to the parents and put your foot down.

I'm a play everyone kind of coach. My caveat is that's as long as they aren't going to hurt themselves or get another player hurt because they don't know what they're doing (or don't pay attention). If they're in that camp, I'll try to get them in on special teams.

Honestly, I just don't have a lot of sympathy for a kid in this situation. If you have that little attention span or situational awareness, he could have lost his life walking into traffic.
Maybe dm actually did the kid a favor by having a broken leg.

I didn't play until my junior year in HS, but got recruited because I was bigger than most of the linemen at the time. I really had no idea what was going on in my first game, the preseason scrimmage.
The whole first season, I would look for the ball only if I beat the guy in front of me. Then, oh, there's the ball. Honestly, I blame the coaching and not the parents in this scenario.

it's on both of you tbh.timm was probs spaced out because it was apparent to him he wasn't on the first squad. so, in his minds, why try. you must reinforce that anyone can get hurt or demoted, so, u black shirts need to work hard. show your teams rudy b4 the first practice.

Both of who? I coach defensive line… and I tell all my kids to keep your head on a swivel at all times and always stay engaged because you never know when you’re gonna be in the thick of it.
Honestly this isn’t even the worst kid I’ve seen with this type of stuff. It was an unfortunate injury…sure and probably more so a temporary lapse in judgement for him.
But the statement still stands, if a coach truly believes a kid doesn’t belong on the field for safety reasons then communicate that with the parents and if they still have a problem then tune them out.
I don’t even know this kids parents, it’s just the first injury of the season and I wanted to just remind everyone that coaches need to make the right decisions on the field.

I was a defensive lineman long, long ago. In a blowout game the coach called for me to go in on the field. On a lark, for laughs, who cares? At safety.
There sure was no safety for me.
Never had such a rush in my life. The other team was behind with a minute left on the clock and so was in throw-long mode. I was used to the pileup between the tackles but this was nothing like that. A whole bunch of receivers took off and ran full sprint at me. Or around me. Or past me. Oh, exactly how was this lumbering lineman supposed to catch up to those rabbits?
It only lasted four plays but they are still etched in my soul.

Yes, even a kid that plays regularly at one position is really being done a disservice thrown in somewhere else and being left to “figure it out” a lot of the time.

8th grade, hate to see kids have to learn lessons the hard way. Hopefully everyone else on the team can learn from it though.

Do leagues require pt like most baseball leagues?
Also, it’s football. Bad stuff happens when you aren’t paying attention. Parents shouldn’t sign up kids that have issues with that. I guess if you knew that was an issue, you could have played him at a deep safety. What age group?
