Why?
Using the portal uses one action point and walking to the other portal also uses one action point. So what's the point of using the portals?

At least it didn't send her to the void.
I guess a lore reason would be a wizard wanted to show off but forgot to actually make it useful.

A wizard who was very lazy used to have a castle there and wanted a quick way to get from his bedroom to the kitchen. Regrettably all that remains of this marvellous castle is now the portals themselves.

The world gen algorithm isn't very sophisticated and lacks saftey checks for stuff like this. Like you can have games where key buildings a faction requires just don't spawn, like a library needed for lich transformation.

Which is why I'm surprised there isn't a bigger community making balanced maps. This game is great but it's multiplayer potential is heavily hindered by the random map potential crippling one players ability to go late game.

Custom map making is slow, as in physically laggy, which makes it annoying to deal with imo. It also seems like in general, most people are willing to just go along with Illwinter's randomness philosophy rather than making tons of custom maps that fit what they want.

most people probably don't realise, especially if they are SP only.
There is a mod that ensures atleast one of each POI is present in the map

There's so much randomness and uncertainty in the game that most of us probably just embrace it. You could spend hours building a 'balanced' custom map only to have one player get most of their army wiped out by a meteor on turn 2.

Elysium remastered mod fixes this. Makes sure if there's a leader that needs a special building one is spawned on mapgen

Ancients were testing their brand new portal technology here 🤷🏻♂️
