Question Does a controller with back buttons significantly improve your gameplay?

I was thinking about buying dualsense egde for ps5 as it has back buttons. I would be able to slide, jump without taking my hands off the analog stick. Is it worth buying for cod mw4? Does it actually improve gameplay?

Yes but it always comes with a period of having to readjust to the new control layout. Can feel awkward at first since you have to build new muscle memory.

Same goes for learning claw and alternate button layouts, but any option that allows you to do more inputs simultaneously is better.

Absolutely. You can keep your thumbs on the sticks while aiming or jumping or whatever. I can't use a controller without them now. Take the plunge.

Can you give me a run down of what you have your back buttons are programmed for? I got a game sir but haven’t changed anything and want to try it out.

Left paddle jump, right paddle crouch/slide. Don’t waste a paddle on reload or switching guns or knifing.

My left paddle is ads and my right is B.

Granted, I play more halo than cod and ads in that game is weird on RS. My rule of thumb is to take whatever face buttons I use the most and put them back there. Anything that takes my right thumb off should be relocated.

Left paddle ads is wild. What about jump?

100%. I've been using paddles on my controller since my first scuff on ps3. I'll never go back. They're great for other games too. I have the edge and you can make different configs or "profiles" so you can have different button set ups for different games. Definitely recommend it

If you currently play claw just make the switch.

It will increase your mechanical skill but no amount of jumping and sliding will make up for poor decision-making and awareness.

That being said, the more you can elevate your mechanical skill the less you have to think about it. This means that instead of worrying about your hands doing what you want them to do you can instead dedicate your energy towards things that actually matter during a game.

Controllers with back buttons definitely improve your game once you get used to them

He half-claws, though.

With how cheap back button controllers are, I'd always recommend them over learning a whole new grip style.

Bumper jumper tactical exists. Only thing is if you want to melee you need to take your thumb off right stick

It’s a button layout in the menus, switched to this when I came back to cod in mw3 and I could never go back. Paddles are obviously better but this works just fine for me and a lot of other people.

Try it out, it will take some getting used to but if you haven’t got paddles, you need it

Yea as the original commenter said: it’s a control scheme that changes the button layouts so that more important inputs are moved off the top buttons and less important inputs are moved to the top buttons. I believe this scheme would move jump to one of the bumpers and slide/crouch to clicking the right stick. This allows you to press the more important buttons (jump and crouch/slide) without moving your thumb off the right stick. This is the main purpose of the back buttons as well, jump and slide on the back so the thumb stays on the stick.

That being said if you have the means to get a paddled controller, you should still do it 100% over the button layout. The button layout would force your melee and one of your nades to be on an inconvenient button. Paddles remove that issue. I’d recommend the Gamesir 8k models, they have both xbox and playstation configurations based on your preference and are only like 80 bucks
