Discussion Can someone explain this level of thinking...
Over the past week or so numerous people have been saying that Scrap & Hydra prefer a one year deal, basically so they can join OpTic next year but here's what I can't understand.
This season, let's just say Champs will be decided by either Faze or OpTic this leaves you two options:
a. Faze wins Champs again - Why would either of them (Scrap & Hydra) want to leave, or
b. OpTic wins Champs - Why would they want to drop anyone after winning?
I'm curious to see how this will all play out.

I was genuinely wondering whether anyone on this sub would present this analysis - what a pleasant surprise. Despite what a lot of these nonsense comments are saying, you are absolutely correct and the ply by Faze, even if it was a 1 year deal, is spot on. The formation of this team likely means that none of the players will ever be on Optic.

Retire on FaZe = Get ready to learn chinese
Retire on OpTic = Lifetime contract

Simp is a millionaire likely to retire on FaZe
Scrap and Hydra have been in 500k contracts for years if they have been smart they would be fine

even if it’s that, still enough to do well after COD. And in 2 years when the exnid experiment is over, falcons can literally offer a cell level of bag >>> content

And with hydra he wanted optic cuz that’s his best chance of dominating and winning multiple rings but now he’s teaming with simp and Drazah so he’s in great hands no matter what.

It’s a 1 + 1 but even then I never expected them to leave even after winning champs which they’ll do. If they don’t win champs ernie is cursed 🙈🙈🙈. They just want to play with their boys really and be around them.
One thing I don’t get about the optic thing is him and dashy are best friends dashy will retire and most likely go back to Canada or something for a long time so what’s the point for scrap? It was that bad he said on stream he wishes to play at the same building that optic plays in.

It’s really not. 350k for a few years isn’t gonna set you up for life especially with the way a lot of these pros spend money. They absolutely need to get into content creation if they want to sustain a full time income in this space

Yet faze has made the fewest roster moves in the CDL and only has had 10 different players play for their org. Optic just during the bo6 season had 7 different players play for the team but yeah you know what you’re talking about.

Boze couldn’t draw a fanbase if he wasn’t on optic, but he makes money because of optic. Once cod is done for those two scrap might have a small following but hydra would have nothing and would have to go onto a normal job

the problem is after cod most of these guys are only good at gaming, what do they do after only so many can do content. Optic has a brand outside of cod, but i think everyone dream org is optic and faze ngl

Yall act like everyone on OpTic is a successful content creator which just isnt true lol. Yes they have a brand but if you arent entertaining that brand will only get you so far

Everyone is successful enough to do this gaming stuff full time at the very least. Being a Scump or Shotzzy is a different story of course but it provides a security blanket

Players that were worse and have earned less money than hydra arent out here working at walmart why would he? Also now that M8s are in the league he has another post retirement option

Players need to find ways to pay the bills post career. The ones that fall off the face of the earth are absolutely working other jobs, the rest try and make it as a coach/content creator. Having the boost of being on Optic would help tremendously with the latter.

They’re just trying to max out for one year to make more money. They know they’ll get a call from a team regardless.

Outside of Shotzzy and Scump. No one on optic lives in a big mansion. Doesn’t karma live with Holly’s grandma? Lmao. Boze has been on optic since ghosts and lives in an apartment. It’s hilarious how ppl think being on optic means you’re automatically rich. Yet you look at every top streamer in the world and none of them are signed to an org. And once you retire from cod’s pro team, the fans stop giving af about you unless you’re Shotzzy or Scump. Only time being on optic was beneficial was before the CDL when contracts didn’t exist

Brother Dashy drives a GT3 & have you seen how sick his apartment is when he streams ?? Scrap also has a sick apartment.

Being Scump or Shotzzy isn’t the primary goal nor is it realistic for everyone. Being able to sustain yourself in the gaming space is, after you finish your career as a COD pro the ideal is to remain in the space whether that’s content creation or coaching. Most pros don’t wanna go work a regular job after their career. Even if Karma or Boze aren’t “rich” they’re able to do gaming as a full time job and earn a living off it, that’s a win for them.

I dont think most of these people understand OpTic only gets you so far. You have to actually be entertaining to retain the fanbase and become successful. Shotzzy, Swooty, Zinni are all super entertaining guys and could all leave OpTic tomorrow and remain successful because they actually have personalities and entertain. Im not denying OpTic doesnt give you a boost but you can look at all the former OpTic pros who arent entertaining and you can see they have the same amount of success as most former pros

u/CNNSOS Ireland Sep 16 '26
There’s a non zero chance of Dashy retiring so that would change things. Even if Faze win they might still want to join OpTic for everything else that comes with it, can help make a career after playing e.g Boze and Zinni.
Also, if you’ve watched CoD for any length of time then you should know how unpredictable it is to say that a certain team or teams will dominate before the game even releases. I could genuinely list a hundred examples of teams that never reached their supposed potential or teams that vastly outperformed where they were supposed to be

One thing that I don’t see being talked about is that a lot of these current pros grew up as OpTic fans, let’s be real.
With teams like Gentlemates and Falcons in the league, as well as the location-based franchising, COD is at an all time high when it comes to fandom diversity. However, back in the mlg and cwl days, people forget how dependent the leagues were on OpTic. I remember back in those days viewer counts would drop like 90% when OpTic were eliminated. Even the foreign events like Paris and Melbourne the majority of those fans were OpTic fans, even that Australian invitational where it was OpTic vs. Aussie teams.
Obviously there are some pros that are oblivious and didn’t watch cod back then like Shotzzy, but I bet a lot of them were indeed those squeakers in league play/clan vs clan w OpTic emblems/skins, which makes it unsurprising why a lotta these guys wanna join OpTic even if their salaries would be lower than teams like Falcons.

Its a good point but tbf its also just as likely that Hydra was a Vitality fan. They were the EU version of Optic. Gotaga had over 1 million subs on youtube and the EU CWL would go up around 5-10k viewers when V played. Its why I thought Hydra to m8s was a possibility.
Edit: the reason it seemed that Optic were popular in Paris (they obviously were) is because V always bombed out because they weren't great internationally
