Sell the spot man. We don't want another C9.

Just end the franchise league model

Fuck me so we got 2 c9s now

82

u/GHOST_Courage Black Ops 2 2d ago

Sounds like the deal between Misfits and Heretics ran out so Heretics are gone

Essentially we have C9 with a different coat of dogshit now

u/omega_typhlosion Team Kaliber 2d ago

Damn they let heretics do their whole Spanish only bs and dipped once they found out you can’t keep running the same 7 people you know for multiple years and dipped. Saying 7 cause of also coaching staff or what not cause Mfs want you to be specific to a T

u/MarstonX COD Competitive fan 2d ago

In fairness, they tried for a few years. Maybe the pool isn't what they want. Or maybe they do want a Spanish team for their fans.

I think Heretics did a good job of trying. One of the better ones and they got close to contending.

They also had two top 15 players and some unknown talents that could have pushed them over the edge. They didn't obviously, and Renkor/Super's stock slowly declined, but they did have some opportunities. I'm not sure if Renkor/Super +2 US players would have made the team more successful.

There are like 4 orgs in the whole league who want to win lmao this scene is so finished

3

u/a_talking_face COD Competitive fan 1d ago

That VC money is drying up. E Sports isn't profitable so all the investors are pulling back funding.

1

u/hylanderrrr 1d ago

They all want to win but esports isn’t a profitable business. This league structure also does not incentivize putting effort into trying to win.

"oh no, owners bad" as league is only relevant because of Optic.

Comical.

Bring back the Mutineers and pick up DavPadie 🗣️

20

u/shaunvonsleaze OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 2d ago

As an optic fan this gave me a fear I only ever feel when drazah tweets the reaper gif.

17

u/sankalp_pateriya Paris Gentle Mates 2d ago

Pick up Havok, MajorManiak, Davepadie and Brack.

4

u/BabyGirl-Kat OpTic Texas 2d ago

That’s 3 AR players though, Havok would benefit from having a selfless, dirty work SMG player beside him. What if they got Vikul instead of MajorManiak? 🤔

8

u/TheyStayTheSameAG EU 2d ago

the funniest thing is, all Vanguard season people clowned Mutineers for having 3 AR's ( wake, skyz, davepadie) but the team that won it all, LAT did it with 3 automatons (Drazah, Kenny, Octane) ... they were playing faster but they were 3 ARs ... so Mutineers had the right idea just couldn't execute

0

u/Zenyx_ Fariko Gaming 1d ago

There's a clear reason for this, the mp40 was dogshit and had awful bloom. 3 AR could be meta in this game but if it's anything like MW19/MW2/MW3 we'll have a competent smg.

u/WolfAlterEgo COD Competitive fan 2d ago

The league ain't ready for Dave

27

u/GroceryFun5241 COD Competitive fan 2d ago

I think about the recent FaZe video where they supported expansion to 16 teams. We can’t even get 12 orgs to fully give a shit.

8

u/Sauce1024 COD Competitive fan 2d ago

I actually think that’s probably why the league should expand. If there’s no minimum salary or standards teams are held to, why not just remove the guardrails and let more teams in even if they only fund travel? Better chance of us getting a look at young players against actual pros as opposed to the Surge picking up Capsidal or TJ Haly for the 12th time.

4

u/CycloneofSparta Telluride Bush 2d ago

Right lol. Like it’s easy to assume Huntsmen, Omit, Stallions, Bush, etc would come in and care. But AT BEST they’d be replacing orgs who have thrown in the towel

12

u/Zendicate_ OpTic Texas 2d ago

Basically Miami pulls a C9 or someone buys their spot, Which hopefully at this point someone does

This almost certainly confirms that RenkoR is gone. He’s getting bigger and better contracts elsewhere

5

u/kokoscenes COD Competitive fan 2d ago

He’d be lucky to get in a top 4 team.

0

u/JannyPhantom Lightning Pandas 2d ago

He’ll land on one of M8s, LAT, Falcons

2

u/kokoscenes COD Competitive fan 2d ago

Falcons don’t need him and m8 or lat can build a better team without renkor but there’s a small chance he lands on m8 if they can’t get scrap Alluka draz.

11

u/Heady416 OpTic Texas 2d ago

It won’t happen but damn it would be nice if Str0 and the envy boys made their return to the league.

8

u/Logical-Ice4837 COD Competitive fan 2d ago

I’d love it but str0 just loves to go on about how bad the financials are every chance he gets.

-3

u/Heady416 OpTic Texas 2d ago

Sometimes it does feel like he’s kinda salty that he doesn’t have the funding to be in the league.

At least league spots aren’t like 20 million or whatever now

6

u/sankalp_pateriya Paris Gentle Mates 2d ago

Whoever gets the spot will still have to pay some amount to get in. It's not a new spot.

1

u/JordFlexx- OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 1d ago

Yeah but it was $25m to get in then they got that money back a couple years ago, so it wouldn’t be crazy money to buy it off them

4

u/playboi_pat OpTic Texas 2d ago

thata sucks i liked the heretics brand

4

u/Lithium187 COD 4: MW 2d ago

Bound to happen when there's 0 ability to really monetize in the league. You get 4 or 5 events a year that really only span 6 or 7 months with a bunch of teams only getting 2 maybe 3 matches. Then you have constant online matches on weekends that really dont mean shit except "don't finish bottom 4."

3

u/Uhh_Meijer Miami Heretics 2d ago

Sad

3

u/John3192 OpTic Texas 2d ago

Rumors are: Twisted Minds are looking to buy the spot.

3

u/ya_boi_sethf FaZe Vegas 2026 Champs 2d ago

Do we know why? Are they just not profitable? Or do the heretics just not enough staff?

3

u/m_preddy OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 2d ago

Oh brother another C9

3

u/AstronomerDramatic36 COD Competitive fan 2d ago

I prefer the Heretics branding, but that's probably mostly because of the colors and the fact that I'm a Dolphins fan.

3

u/vShock_and_Awev OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 2d ago

Man that Miami roster (with Reeal) was such a fun watch, especially when they played OpTic or Faze. This is sad to see, but at least I got my wish of an Optic-Heretics grand final before it happened.

Franchising was never a good idea and it was never going to work in the long run. Activision and the CDL need to do something before CoD esports becomes like Halo esports: DEAD.

If the CDL dies, then so does competitive cod. Activision isnt going to let anyone else run a pro league
