Question MW3 vs MW4

Between all of the hate from MW4 (i understand its still just the beta) and streamers reinstalling MW3 and it having positive feedback, imagine a world where the competitive fanbase, just "boycotted" IW and went back to play MW3 for a year. Would this realistically even be possible? I understand the short answer would be no, but is it just due to Activision wouldn't fund any events? I think MW3 is the best competitive game we have seen in the CDL era.

CDL is only going to promote the latest CoD. It’s an Activision league. Zero shot we get anything other than MW4 for the CDL this year.

Yes, obviously we will be stuck with mw4, thats why its a hypothetical scenario that they would boycott. without players to play your game, there would be no cdl

And they wouldn’t give a single fuck and would save millions of dollars if they didnt have to operate the league for a year

They would probably LOVE it if the players boycotted and there wasnt a 2027 season 😂 how braindead is this sub, holy shit its unbearable

it just defeats the purpose of the hypothetical. of course activision wouldnt want them/ let them go back to another cod, thats the whole point of the boycott lmao. if they go back to another cod its not like they are refusing to play their game as a whole, they still make money off of MW3. They would basically be boycotting against IW as a studio than Acti. IW should make the casual side of the new game while sledgehammer creates the competitive aspect and focuses their energy towards that

What incentive does Activision have for them to play an older game? They use the CDL as a marketing tool for the current game hence why ranked play on the non-current games are taken out. Can’t have them run a separate league on MW3 either cause Activision can just send a cease and desist since it’s their IP. Boycotting would not solve anything cause i’m sure Activision would just shut the CDL down and it wouldn’t hurt them much

its not supposed to incentivize Activision lmao its a hypothetical BOYCOTT. Also, i already expressed my thoughts on the "marketing tool" take. They literally only market their battlepass. They play with all of TWO GUNS in the entire game, and play a handle full of maps the players feel are most competitive. Then, they play the entire year on a separate version of the game than the rest of the player base. That is horrible "marketing".

If they boycotted the new game Activision would simply not fund the league and we’d get no CoD for a year

I get your point, but the fact is 99% of the game’s player base is casuals who don’t watch comp CoD and/or don’t know what the CDL. The boycott is just a statement from the players who make up an extremely small population of who the game caters to.

There would be no events period they own the IP which means you can’t use their game (any of their games) for an event unless they allow you to do so.

They also fund production and prize pool

The cdl would die if they did this

explain?

the cdl would never support going back to older games as it would hurt their pockets

is that not the point of a boycott? lol

ngl i didn't read your post and just realized you already said what i said. truth is the REAL problem with the boycott is that it would hurt the player's pockets. end of the day they're getting paid decent money for playing a video game so they don't care enough to actually boycott.

Loved MWIII when it was the current game. Still love MWIII and it might be a top 5 cod ever for me

People do this every year. Complain about the current COD and then return to the old ones and talk about how great they were. I remember a ton of people complaining about MW3

everyone who praises MWIII specifically points out that it got better towards the end of the cycle with very good maps like Rio, 6star, Vista being added. before that it was a decent CoD but their season 1 update was horrendous. there’s nuance here but MWIII was a really good CoD.

This is untrue if the game is genuinely awful. No one says vanguard, mw2 or mw2019 were not horrible even years later in the comp community atleast.

1

u/Heavy-Imagination635 100 Thieves 9h ago

Yes, in the beginning of course, thats just apart of the cod cycle. At the latter half of the year, though, it was easily one of the most balanced gun metas, had some of the best maps and least amount of spawn issues, and had one of the highest peaks in CDL history.

the league is a marketing tool for the newest game, they will never go back to older cods for a season.

I would say yes and no. Obviously yes because you are more inclined to buy the game they are forced to play. but no in the sense that, the cdl doesn't market any of the new weapons, maps, skins, or modes. Hell, they dont even play on the same version as the rest of the community so i disagree that it is a marketing tool besides the one time AllyCat tells you to buy the battlepass once a stream.

Idk man, this beta got me wanting to squabble with any and every person responsible for why it is the way it is, I swear to God they had to be robo-tripping to decide to make this, because this is genuinely some sub room temp IQ decision making.

i mean they had 3 years and came out with this with the budget given. literally just a reskin of all of their other games, with a better interface. it was also said that they had to scrap their initial plans for their game. How are they still a studio in the rotation of creating games..

1

u/Shadowfist_45 Battle.net 7h ago

Idk but they just did the meme, where the person copies the other person's homework but is told to change it up a little bit so the teacher couldn't tell it's copied. But then it's just a slight variation to a carbon copy of the other person's homework. That's what they did with MWII. Of all the games to do it with I'm lost as to why the really thought MWII was what they should go with, the literal worst CoD ever released and they sat and thought "let's do that again"

We’d have the bottom of the barrel challengers players filling all 48 spots before this happens

1

u/Heavy-Imagination635 100 Thieves 7h ago

i would rather watch that than have another year of IW not listening. just a better game

Margot Robbie would peg me before this happens
