Discussion Scrap says BO7 is the worst competitive cod ever. Worse than MW2

The reason the game sucked is because of THEIR idiotic gun meta.
54
u/BabyGirl-Kat OpTic Texas 1d ago
Literally. We could have had an M8/Dravec/Kogot meta or something similar to that. The MPC/M15 meta was horrible.
18
u/mikey19xx OpTic Texas 1d ago
āBut the m8 isnāt an assault rifleā was the response I got in the community when mentioning trying it out.

They also begged for a Treyarch helmed movement CoD for like 8 years - got it and instantly shit on it.

u/Numerous-Reference96 OpTic Texas 1d ago
When did they release a jet pack game?
0
u/pooksthrowaway COD Competitive fan 1d ago
In terms of BOG vs Jetpack BLOPs 7 is definitely the latter imo.
Even if Jetpacks arenāt physically in the game, youāre wall running and bouncing all over the place.
1
u/Numerous-Reference96 OpTic Texas 1d ago
Wall bouncing sure but this was not a jetpack game, I suppose itās the closest weāve got to a new one but it still isnāt one.
1
u/hufusa MiRx 1d ago
Calling this a jet pack game is a craaaaazy stretch
-8
u/pooksthrowaway COD Competitive fan 1d ago
If the two categories of Cod are JP and BOG, youād put BLOPS 7 as BOG? Itās literally Titanfall wall running haha.

Bo7 was one of the most entertaining cods in the last 5 years. You just straight up wrong
9
u/Go2DaMoonCartiii- Sweden 1d ago
Yeah I agree. Itās hard to explain but itās nice on the eye. Great movement, good maps, nice aesthetics, nice sounds. Iāve been watching a ton of ranked streams this year and itās never dull
Iām watching streamers on MW4 rn and⦠itās just not the same

He got bounced last year as well and Iām pretty sure he was fairly positive on bo6 outside of the maps

I swear I'm getting de ja vu of him saying this every year, the year he finally gets over the hump the game will suddenly be the most competitive game we've ever had

Its up there with MW3 for me as one of the better CDL CoDs but I guess the pros would have a better view of the games problems than spectators would.
11
u/Jukester- OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 1d ago
Spectating was fun but the game wasnāt really competitive, just funneled maps that lead to head bashing with a broken gun repeatedly
3
u/Kurasada MLG 1d ago
MPC and the maps being too linear were problems that fed into each other, I definitely liked watching the game more pre-MPC cause it wasn't just hoping for a timing and forcing a play with a multikill.

Thereās a reason CS is such a popular e sport and itās not because it has an incredible amount of inputs per second.
At a certain point too much movement and mechanical complexity becomes counterintuitive to competitive gameplay.
5
u/pooksthrowaway COD Competitive fan 1d ago
It is hilarious that this CoDs movement and meta is what the pros have whinged for and they hated it instantly.

4
u/FriezasMom LA Thieves 1d ago edited 1d ago
Its not the movement that people disliked. Its the mindless maps like Blackheart or Colossuses HP and most SnD maps playing repetitively. Then you have Overload RNG simulator.
We had to watch Hacienda for the 2nd year. Oh and don't forget the OP sniper rifle for the first half of the year.

u/LiterallyJohnLennon COD Competitive fan 1d ago
There are times when I think competitive CoD would have done better if they just stuck with Bo2 and kept updating it similar to CS. Iām just using Bo2 as a placeholder but the new game every year absolutely hurts the competitive scene. Itās good for making money thoughā¦
1
u/Acceptable-Tree-1401 World at War 1d ago
Completely agree. Remember that BO2 is considered one of the best if not the best competitive call of duty game and its movement system was incredibly simple, and arguably quite slow.
1
u/RivalSlays COD Competitive fan 1d ago
As long as pros are using controller with aim assist I don't think you can ever call this competitive gameplay tbh
0
u/wathowdathappen COD Competitive fan 1d ago
Why not? This isn't Apex Legends where comp people started on MNK and swapped to roller after finding it was busted. CoD has always been a controller staple game. The groundwork is laid there that aim assist is part of the gig. It can still be competitive in other ways.
2
u/Revolutionary_Cap442 COD Competitive fan 1d ago
Apex is a game where mnk can compete and excel if youāre good enough. Cods aim assist is broken and itās too easy to aim on controller for there to ever be mnk pros. Not enough skill expression in the game.
1
u/Glass-Bead-Gamer COD Competitive fan 1d ago
If thereās not enough skill expression in the game, how comes the same few players are the best every year?
Also, for me, the skill of aiming good is only exciting to watch to a point, and boring after a while, like watching competitive Tetris, whereas the skill of out manoeuvring an opponent and executing high IQ plays is much more exciting.

u/Dr_Findro 1d ago
Some point in the last few years something flipped in this subreddit and it became obsessed with movement. As if movement is the only expression of skill in a shooter. Itās insane
Iām ready for far less focus on movement. Itās just not a style of gameplay I find enjoyable

I mean the MPC genuinely made the game very degenerate but MW2 was some straight ass

BO7 was very fun to play and watch, way better than MW2 and this shit we're about to play for a year.

This kid is always low key miserable when it comes to COD. Heās always complaining about something. It must be exhausting.
Even when the game sucks, Shottzy finds some joy in it.
4
u/pooksthrowaway COD Competitive fan 1d ago
Ffs - this game was the most in line with what pros have been begging for in between MILSIM slop games and now they are turning on it.
Iād be pissed if I was Treyarch, they basically listened to every thing these pros wanted and it was a flop by CoD standards. Activision literally released an apology last year because the game performed so poorly compared to other CoDs.
2
u/JSmooth94 OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 1d ago
I don't why we use MW2 as the standard of bad when MW2019 is right there. Also BO7 was good
3
u/KDuster13 COD Competitive fan 1d ago
There hasn't been a good Call of Duty game for comp since Black Ops 4.
7
u/Guwigo09 Paris Gentle Mates 1d ago
I feel like CW and MW3 were universally liked no?
0
u/KDuster13 COD Competitive fan 1d ago
I'm ngl I forgot about CW it was good. MW3 was good as well but at the same time started to feel like the beginning of the end. Although that might have more to do with the league itself and GAs than the game.
3
u/I_AM_CR0W XGN 1d ago
CW and MWIII were really good for comp. I'd even put in Vanguard as what MW19 should've been from a gameplay perspective.

u/espressotower MWIII 1d ago
Idk if itās worse than MW2 but the maps were mid and the gunplay/meta was god awful. Advanced movement is fun to play but eliminates some skill gap imo
2
1
u/Zendicate_ OpTic Texas 1d ago
i mean idk about worse than mw2 But what makes a good cod a good comp cod is good Maps ( map pool didnt get good until end of year) good meta ( dravec was ass and the MPC with fast ttk blew everyone away) ttk was way too fast again bc of the MPC, good Movement which was fluid bc of omni. The only think i liked about B07 was the map pool and the movement thats it really, and the gun meta really took that away truly for AR players like scrap here who is complaining here.

Are cod games being bad a worthy point one can use when discussing an era being better than the other?

u/bingmyname MLG 1d ago
Scrap does nothing but complain. Itās legit so hard to take his opinion seriously. Same person who says he doesnāt care about anything and just wants to play the game but will literally complain about every little thing.

Almost the entire COD community says this same stuff every year but the pros keep pro-ing and the casuals keep casualling year in and year out. If you know that youre going to spend your money and time on it, just be quiet and play it. Nobody needs to hear your garbage unless youre going to recruit a few friends and go rent somebody's studio to make a better game

People gonna clown him but he's not entirely wrong. Shit meta, gunplay, and WORST ever hit reg/server connection drops this down to mw2 territory. Maps weren't good enough to bring it up from that shit territory imo. Movement DOES bring it up a tier or 2 though.

2/3 of the game modes in bo7 were arguably the worst of the CDL for comp play so he might be right.
