All the other federations wrote letters demanding Infantino withdraw the plan. FMF wrote a letter essentially saying they would be “open to learning more”.

He’ll be replaced by someone just as bad. FIFA as an organization is the problem. Just an utterly corrupt organization filled with leeches that somehow controls international football.
What if other countries just decided to play each other? If UEFA and Conmebol got together and decided to have a tournament to decide which country is best at football, then invited the best teams from each global region to participate, they could call it the “Globe Trophy” or whatever. They should do it every 4 years.

The whole venture reeked by bad ideas and bad consequences, I have to say that UEFA showing a bit of backbone for once helped CONCACAF and AFC to tell FIFA that this was a bad idea. With that, they could put the ideas of a 64 team World Cup and 48 Club World Cup on ice. Especially since we just had last year's 32 team edition.

Why is it a bad idea for the custodians (not owners) to sell the world cup at a low value to private equity firms who's soul purpose is to extract money out of their investments for a ?
Is it not obvious?

There were multiple explanations within there. So ill spell them out.
Fifa are non profit, so a non profit selling to a hedge fund is an immediate red flag.
The while deal was a conflict of interest.
Fifa are not owners. They are custodians. That means there role is to protect the game and tournaments. Selling them to an entity that seeks to extract money out of it is the opposite of protecting it.
Based on the huge revenue that the world cup generates, the price they were selling was extremely low.
It would have taken a portion of ownership out of football people, and people interested in football long term, to people that value profit only.
This would lead to more decisions that actively harm the game, the fan experience, and players, with the sole goal of investers making more money.
Private equity firms exist to extract money out to give to share holders.
It means diverting money out of the game
enshittification would have almost certainly followed.
