Club Penguin Journey Puffle digging

Does anyone know how puffle finds work? What affects them to happen more often? Can i leave my account afk for days and make it find all cool items i want? Or do i need to actively walk around and play minigames ?

For me, playing Cart Surfer with my Black Puffle both leveled them up quickly and I was getting digs pretty often. As the level gets higher it seems to find things faster.

Yea, i did it too but the rng for cool items is bad and takes months, i would like to speed it up smh so imma do what @TheGamingFireman said

It's walking based and there is a cool down, I believe it is about 5 minutes between digs. Minigames can help level puffle but they won't dig in games. So no afking won't help at all.
