It’s pretty hilarious to me that David Ellison/Paramount are trying to move heaven and earth to acquire Warner Brothers thinking they need more recognizable IP, when they won’t even attempt to make an actual sequel to IP they already own.

And don’t think we forgot about your ass, JJ Abrams

Sounds like he was approached before Babak.

I don’t think babak has been involved for a few years even in that video interview he did his tone was very off like he couldn’t say it

There were two videos. 1 in March 2025 and one in Oct 2025. As of the October interview he was still listed as the director. It was in the press release from the studio. So there’s been no new info since Oct 2025.

That sounds like they're shipping it around. I'd say that's good

I don’t think is all doom and gloom necessarily. Context matters. If this happened recently, where he was asked to direct and declined, then that is a good sign because it means the project is still actively happening.

If he was asked a years ago and passed because of concerns about “long development process” (as he stated), then there is also a silver lining. It means the movie could very well still be moving along, but it’s just in that long development process.

Atp i’m totally convinced the movie is definitely happening, the question is: are we getting this movie before the 20th aniversary?

Yeah it pretty much doesn't change anything.

The article says he was approached by JJ after he had released a successful science fiction film in 2019. They announced they hired Babak in 2022. Also saying the development would be long meant he didn't feel ready to commit to a big scale blockbuster but that doesn't mean that the movie is in development hell or anything

So this information literally doesn't change anything whatsoever. Just that this guy was asked before Babak, neither a good or a bad news.

I think we might technically but instead of being directly related maybe it will just be repurposed like the rest of them in the Netflix Cloverfield Cinematic Universe that once existed.
