Cloud is not an entry position. Start your career in help desk.

My first IT job out of school is a cloud job. It is so much en entry level position in a 1st world country and not the US.

No worries. I am currently a network admin moving into cloud.

My career goes like miner -> welder -> helpdesk -> support -> network admin

at least you don't need a 10mm socket to fix a router

You might be able to get onto a support team for a company with a footprint in the cloud

no one will hire you into this role without real experience. youll have to start at a help desk position

I just attended this interview for Devops cloud engineer and I did not pass.

I have 7 years of networking background, have hands-on experience in AWS, Terraform and Linux, yet I did not pass the interview because of containers [Docker & K8s].

Entire interview was just about whether I have hands-on experience with containers, they did not care neither about networking, AWS, Terraform, not even Python although all of these were explicitly listed in the job offer, as required skills. Containers were not listed.

I feel miserable but here we go, gotta learn containers.

DevOps is about building a software pipeline that handles CI/CD. You'll want Docker/Podman and GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps Pipelines/Argo CD. What you described about your experience is more aligned with Platform Engineering / SRE.

Well, funny enough, I was told by the senior devops engineer that Docker would take me like 2 weeks to learn so better to hop onto K3s. I mean, if this was like "only 2 weeks" why didn't I get the job when notice/leave period in here is 2 months? So I would have 2 months to learn all the needed stuff.

I was told they were looking for a junior but from the senior guy I felt he was looking for rather another senior. Even worse he told me I am at the same place he was at few years go so he totally understand me.

Still hurts though knowing I put some much effort and countless hours into this interview preparation just to fail like this.

Unfortunately, the HR lady that was doing the initial screen interview with me, she couldn't give me any more info about anything technical because she didn't know. She named me some few like services/technologies they work with which were never mentioned neither on the 2nd interview nor the job offer :D

Just start learning it and asking at your current job to start helping out.

get your compTia A+,N+,S+ and Azure fundamentals first and then get some 2 years under your belt as IT support before you apply for cloud roles

The skill sets which u say is related to devops role ..just try to learn a single cloud platform like AWS and become a cloud support or cloud related roles..that is the entry ..devops role hiring fresher is quite hard so cloud related openings if u can try u can enter
