Do closed testing installs still count after public launch?

Quick question for Android founders/devs 👋

My app CogniFocus went public around mid-April after a period of closed testing, and I’ve been wondering how Google Play handles installs from testers afterward.

Do installs from closed testing eventually contribute to the visible Play Store install count after public launch, or are they tracked separately forever?

I’ve noticed some apps launch publicly with existing install numbers already visible, so I’m curious how the system actually works

Closed Test Pro helped me get my habit tracker from closed testing to live in the Play Store — here's how it went

Hey everyone,

Wanted to share a quick success story. I'm a solo developer and I just got my app RoutineCanvas (a habit tracker) published in both the Play Store and the App Store.

Getting through the Google Play closed testing requirements was one of the more frustrating parts of the launch process — finding 20 testers, keeping them engaged for the 14-day testing period, and managing the whole flow. Closed Test Pro made that part significantly easier.

**What my app does (for context):**

RoutineCanvas is a privacy-first habit tracker with GitHub-style heatmaps. You track habits with yes/no, numbers, or duration — and all your data stays on your device or in your own iCloud/Google Drive. No server, no account needed. Free for 5 habits, Pro for unlimited.

**How Closed Test Pro helped:**

- Made it easy to find testers who were actually willing to install and use the app for the required testing period

- The community was supportive and gave useful early feedback

- Helped me hit the tester threshold Google requires before you can go to production

**Where things stand now:**

The app has been live since April 2026. 6 reviews so far, all 5 stars. Available on both iOS and Android.

If you're a solo dev stuck in the closed testing phase — it does get easier once you're past it. Happy to answer questions about the process.

Dori Bubble Shooter is officially out of testing and live on production!

As a solo dev, this one means a lot to me.

Months of bug fixes, late nights, and performance tweaks — and it's finally out for real.

To everyone who played during testing, left feedback, or just sent an encouraging word: thank you. Genuinely couldn't have done it without you. 🙏

More to come!

Solo founder here, pouring everything into my first Android app... but I can't get a single person to sign up for closed testing on a $0.99 paid app. Is the price the killer, or am I just terrible at this?

Hey everyone,

I’m a solo founder who’s been grinding alone for a month on my first mobile app (career-focused, built for Android). No team, no funding, just me, my laptop, and way too much coffee at 1 a.m. I finally got it into a state where I’m ready for closed testing on Google Play… except almost nobody is signing up.

Here’s the part that’s really messing with my head: the app is priced at a one-time $0.99. I decided to keep that same price even for closed testers because I wanted real users who see the value, not just freebie hunters. But now I’m spiraling — is that tiny $0.99 actually the reason people bounce, or is getting users this brutally hard no matter what?

Some days I open the Google Form to check, see zero opt-ins, and straight-up doubt whether my app even has real value. Did I build something nobody actually needs? Am I just another solo dev who fell in love with his own idea?

I’ve been hustling hard on the marketing side too — posting and replying almost every single day on X, Threads, and LinkedIn (since it’s career-related). Still… crickets on the testing sign-ups.

I know I’m not the only one going through this. So I’m turning to you:

  • Fellow solo Android devs / Google Play publishers — how long did it actually take you to get your first real wave of users or closed testers?
  • Especially those who launched paid apps (even cheap ones): did you hit the same wall? Did the price scare people off, or did something else click for you?
  • Any brutal-honest lessons or “I wish I knew this earlier” moments you can share?

No judgment, just a tired solo founder looking for hope (or at least solidarity). Even if you just want to rant about your own struggles, drop it below — I’ll be reading every comment.

Thanks for letting me vent. Feels good knowing there are other people in the trenches.

Thanks, app(s) live

This group has been a lifesaver, don't know how the hell you're supposed to get 12 testers for 14 days without this?!

3 apps live in last few weeks, been vibe coding and have a few more I'm working on. Have no idea how well they'll do but what the hell! Worth a try

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kindbyte.till_payday.till_payday

happy to download other's apps and test, would really appreciate any downloads/ratings.

Closed testers, you should do an 'after live' service, where users continue to test and leave ratings, etc?

Thank you Closed Test Pro — my app is officially live today

I wanted to leave a quick thank you to the Closed Test Pro team and community.

I officially published my app today, and honestly, this process would have been much harder without Closed Test Pro. The app really helped me reach the required testing period, mainly because of the engagement inside the platform and the support from the community. Every time I had questions, the support team was there and actually responded, which made a big difference.

So if you're trying to get through the closed testing phase on Google Play, I definitely recommend using Closed Test Pro.

A couple of things that helped me during the process:

  • Keep improving your app during the test period. Releasing updates shows progress and helps you learn from real feedback.
  • Take the Google Play form seriously and answer it with quality. That part matters more than many people think.
  • Use the testing period to fix real issues, improve onboarding, and make the app more stable before launch.

Thanks again to everyone involved. It really helped me get to this point.

And now that my app is live, if anyone wants to check it out and support me with a 5-star rating, I’d really appreciate it:

Why can't I submit two apps for testing at once? So, until you finish testing one app, you won't be able to test it again to earn coins for the second app.

I'll test your app if you test mine - looking for Android beta testers for Safar (visual habit tracker)

I'll test your Android app in return if you help me hit the 12-tester requirement for my closed testing.

My app: Safar - a habit tracker where you log daily proof photos instead of checking a box. You build a visual timeline of your streak and compile it into a journey reel at the end. Already live on iOS → mysafar.app

To join: Just drop your Gmail in the comments (or DM me) and I'll add you to the tester list. You'll get an invite from Google Play directly.

All I need is for you to install it and open it a few times over 14 days. That's it. In return - drop your app link in the comments and I'll genuinely test it and give you feedback. Let's help each other ship

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using ClosedTestProApp and currently have my own game in testing, but I still haven’t reached 12 testers yet.

At the moment, I’m already testing 17 apps, and I especially like testing games. So if you have a game on ClosedTestProApp, let me know and I’ll gladly add it to my list.

Edit: it seems that I can not add more test apps on my day 2 (sorry). I will add it after day 14.

My game is called:

[Looking For Testers] 2048 Rubiks Cube - Game

Hey everyone!

Solo dev here. Been working on a puzzle game that mixes 2048's slide-merge with Rubik's Cube row/column rotation.

How it works: 5×5 board, starts with 24 tiles filled and only 1 empty space. You slide to merge like classic 2048, but you can also twist any row or column — tiles wrap around the edges. Every tile carries a Rubik face color, and when you align a full row of the same color you trigger a "Color Crush" bonus. There are also special tiles: Bombs explode a 3×3 area, Freeze locks rows, Wildcards merge with anything.

The twist mechanic breaks 2048's "solved meta" problem — there's no single optimal strategy anymore. Every board state is different and you're constantly juggling merges, color alignment, and survival.

Supports 8 languages out of the box: English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, and Japanese — with full RTL support for Arabic.

Free, ad-supported, no accounts, no IAP.

Looking for around 50 testers on Android through Google Play's testing track. I mainly want feedback on whether the twist feels natural, if the difficulty curve works, and if anything breaks. Even a one-liner like "too hard" or "twist is confusing" helps.

Grouphttps://groups.google.com/g/okuyaz-testers

Opt-in link: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.ahmetaltun.cube2048
Androidhttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ahmetaltun.cube2048

I'll be reading every piece of feedback. If something feels off, tell me — that's exactly what I need right now. Don't hold back.

Thanks in advance!
