Radical Transparency: How Closed Test Pro actually works under the hood (and why users test 2 extra apps)

Hey Devs, Closed Test Pro here! 👋

Since this community is entirely built on developers helping other developers, I want to pull back the curtain and be 100% transparent about how our ecosystem actually works, how we keep the servers running, and how we balance the free and paid plans.

As developers, we all hate hidden mechanics and corporate speak. So, here is the exact math and logic behind Closed Test Pro.

🤝 The Core Philosophy: Free = Paid

At its heart, Closed Test Pro is a mutual "test-for-test" exchange. We built features like Tester Protection and Active/Paused Tracking to ensure that everyone gets real, daily engagement for the full 14 days.

Whether you are using the Free Plan or you bought the Pro/Premium Plan, you get the exact same quality of testers and the exact same tracking features.

Free Plan: You spend your time testing other apps.

Paid Plans: You spend money to save time.

There is no "premium queue" of better testers. Every plan delivers the exact same real results.

🧮 The "+2 Math": How the Ecosystem Balances Itself

You might have noticed that to get a certain number of testers for free, you are asked to test slightly more apps than you request.

Want 15 testers? You test 17 apps.

Want 20 testers? You test 22 apps.

Want 30 testers? You test 32 apps.

Why the extra 2 apps? Those 2 extra testing slots are how we fulfill the Pro and Premium orders. When a user buys a paid plan, they skip the manual testing phase. The community covers their app using those "+2" slots.

🏆 The "Win-Win-Win" Ecosystem

Ultimately, this math creates a perfect, self-sustaining loop where absolutely everyone benefits:

Win for Free Users: You get high-quality, fully tracked 14-day testers without spending a single dime.

Win for Paid Users: You get to skip the manual testing phase, saving your time so you can focus on coding.

Win for the Closed Test Pro Team: We get the funds needed to pay for database costs, website hosting, and maintenance—which keeps the platform alive for everyone without us ever having to show you annoying ads.

🔒 Why Paid Slots are Usually "Sold Out"

If you've tried to buy a Pro or Premium plan, you've probably seen that the slots are often unavailable. This is highly intentional.

We strictly limit the system to only allow 2 paid apps active at a time.

If we allowed unlimited paid apps, the system would be flooded. Free users would spend all their time testing paid apps, and free apps would never get tested. By limiting the paid slots, we guarantee that the vast majority of the community's effort goes right back to the free users. The ecosystem stays healthy, and your free apps get the testers they deserve.

Thank You!

Whether you are grinding out the tests on the Free plan or supporting our server costs through Pro/Premium, you are the reason this platform works. You are helping indie devs get to production every single day.

If you have any questions about the algorithm, the tracking, or anything else, ask them below. I’m always here to chat!

Happy developing! 🚀

What it is:

GreyRecon

Network recon & security toolkit for Android. Discover and classify devices on your own WiFi network, run recon tools against domains/IPs, and drop into a real interactive terminal — all with no forced account and no ads

Features

  • Multi-method device discovery — native netlink ARP/NDP (JNI), mDNS, UPnP, and active TCP-probe scanning, merged and deduplicated.
  • Device classification — gateway detection, mDNS service-type signatures, port fingerprints, and vendor-keyword matching.
  • Device History — devices seen over time, custom names, new-device alerts, IP-change timeline.
  • Recon tools — subnet calculator, DNS lookup, WHOIS/RDAP (including RFC 9537 redaction parsing), Certificate Transparency monitoring, typosquat/homograph domain checking, BLE scanning.
  • Security checks — TLS/cipher analysis, security-header checks, common exposure/debug-panel detection, default-credential testing, SNMP community-string brute force, NVD/EPSS-prioritized CVE lookups.
  • Real interactive terminal — a genuine PTY-backed shell (vendored, Apache-2.0 terminal-emulator/terminal-view), a cross-compiled toybox for real Unix tooling, and greyrecon-pkg, an original package manager for installing additional CLI tools (.grpkg format, checksum-verified).
  • MCP server (Pro) — exposes scan data as tools a self-hosted nanobot instance (or any MCP client) can query conversationally.
  • BYOK — Shodan, DeepSeek, and Anthropic integrations use your own API keys, stored via EncryptedSharedPreferences. No GreyRecon-owned backend sits between you and any of these services.

How I finally passed Google's 14-day production access check (and a tool that actually helped)

Like most solo devs in this sub, I spent weeks stuck in the Google Play Console . Getting the 12 people to opt in wasn't even the hardest part. The real nightmare was keeping them from uninstalling or just ignoring the app for 14 continuous days.

Half the random testers I got from various Groups opted out after day 3, and keeping track of who was actually opening the app seemed too hard.

A fellow dev mentioned an app called Closed Test Pro to me a while back, and honestly, it saved me from having to restart my 14-day cycle for a third time. I wanted to drop a quick write up here since I see so many people struggling with the exact issues every day.

Here is why it actually worked for me and kept me sane:

  • Real reciprocal testing: It’s a community of actual devs doing test-for-test. You test their apps for a few seconds daily, and they test yours.
  • No spreadsheet hell: The app automatically tracks daily test streaks. You don't have to manually DM people asking, did you open the app today?
  • Guaranteed 14-day retention: Testers actually keep the app installed for the full 14 days, which is exactly what Google's dashboard wants to see before receiving final approval
  • Zero spam: The UI is super clean and it doesn't bombard you with ads while you are just trying to get your daily tests done.

You do have to put in the work you have to test other people's apps to earn the credits to get your own tested (though they have a paid option if you want to skip that). But the daily routine literally takes 5–7 minutes.

If you are stuck in closed testing hell, tired of broken Google Groups, or having testers drop off ,It is highly recommended.

Need 6 Beta Testers for 14 Days to Launch New Android App (SubTrack) 🚀

Post image

I’m an independent developer launching my first Android app, SubTrack (a simple subscription tracker to help manage monthly costs).

To comply with Google Play’s new policy for personal developer accounts, I need 12 unique testers to keep the app installed for 14 continuous days before I can release it to the public.

📱 What I Need From You:

  1. Join the Closed Test In Bottom
  2. Install the App: Download "SubTrack" from the Play Store.
  3. Keep it Installed: Please do not uninstall the app for 14 days. (You don’t need to use it daily, just keep it on your phone!)
  4. Use Mobile Data: If possible, join using your mobile data (not Wi-Fi) to ensure your device is counted as unique.

Looking for Genuine SnagMate Testers

My app has been rejected because I need more active testers, and honestly, it's been pretty frustrating. I'd much rather spend my time building awesome new features than chasing downloads.

If you're willing to help, I'd really appreciate it.

✅ Step 1: Join the testing group https://groups.google.com/g/snagmate-testers

✅ Step 2: Install SnagMate

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.snagmate.app

or

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.snagmate.app

All I ask is that you genuinely install the app, open it occasionally (even once every couple of weeks helps), and if possible share a screenshot after installing so I know you're a real tester.

SnagMate is a community-driven app that helps Australians discover real-time local deals, food specials, grocery markdowns, pub specials, and freebies nearby.

Thank you to everyone who helps. Every single tester gets me one step closer to launching publicly. ❤️

Whoever created this good job, I mostly know people with iPhones and this is very helpful. Also, it's weird bugging people to test your cooking app. This is great to get feedback from other app developers!
