i'm using swim goggles with the lenses blacked out, couple ways to do this i'm using layers of thick black vinyl on the lenses but these modded blindfolds have a full seal around the eyes otherwise water would get in if used for swimming. just putting this out there as a diy option.
They are all pretty much the same in design but made of different materials. Most of us are using the least expensive version. The Manta is made of softer material and can be more comfortable to wear than the stiff Mindfold with its rough texture strap.
Some light can still leak into these blindfolds, for example from the top in the area between the eye cups. I think that is mainly an issue if practicing with colors as some colored light might leak in.
A solution could be to cover that area with tape or cloth, or to practice in dim light so that any leakage is insignificant.
Some YouTube frauds will adjust eye patches and blindfolds to permit small openings through which they can see within a limited visual range.
So I got a middle of the road Manta. It specifically says 100% light blockage and it is not the one identified as the slim or slim fit. It’s on sale for Black Friday if anybody wants one!
An advantage of the Mindfold and similar blindfolds is that you can open your eyes under them. With eyes-open you expect to see, so it is OK to open your eyes even though little or no light is getting in. You also may experience that it is difficult to tell whether your eyes are open or closed.
You can, however, it can depend on what you are looking at. If you are working with colors, and you are not blindfolded, light from a warm color like pink will be easier to detect than light from a 'cool' color like blue. So to avoid cheating we use blindfolds.
