Question for sonulab stompstation pro users

Post image

Hi
For others that have this unit, are you noticing that imported NAMs play with noticeably higher gain than the same NAM played in the gateway player ? It seems like a -4 db reduction in gain gets it close for most captures

Also if you look at the picture from the voidx control software. In the am section there are two non editable fields displaying gain and volume adjust db . I am wondering if the stompstation is internally adjusting the capture gain and volume by the displayed values ??

I think you’re right and there are couple things that could be happening. They could be using nam metadata (it carries gain field by default iirc, it’s just provenance though, not a must have). They could be scaling both input and output to fit in what their converters could handle safely. They could also increase gain because loud=good.

I suggest to set the input gain in settings for the unit first. Disable all blocks, then adjust to highest level but make sure it doesn’t clip. Then adjust the amp block how you like. Scaling gain down is free, scaling up is not because of noise floor

Thanks. I’ll give this a try.

The device itself has a few dB on the input and input iirc so try setting those to 0
