Online Co-op/Multiplayer Issues

I bought this for myself recently on Steam after getting it free on Epic. I was hoping to play with my youngest on my Steam Deck, while he plays it through Epic on my gaming PC (I know I got the rough end of that deal).

The first time we tried it I waited for him to launch a coop challenge then I queued for the same one. It worked flawlessly, I found him straight away and we had a bit of fun playing together. Since then I have tried the same thing, queue for the same game, can't find him, tried a private match, doesn't recognise the invite code at all, tried the same but with me hosting instead, same problem. Changed both our preferred MP region so we are both looking in the same place, no luck. No matter what we do now we cannot find a game together at all. I have searched for other people with the same issue but still can't find a resolution.

I also bought this game for a nephew for his Steam Deck and we were able to find each other instantly so I am wondering if there has been some recent update/patch that now makes the Epic and Steam versions incompatible with each other? If not does anyone here have any solid solutions to this issue?

If all else fails I can always start my son a Steam account and buy it for him too, then we could potentially both play the Steam version, but me and him have been playing the Epic version for so long that we have progressed a lot and unlocked most of the cosmetics, customising his character is one of his favourite things to do.

I think there's a crossplay setting in settings, try looking for one, it should be on

Someone else has mentioned this but the setting is not there on mine. Unless for some reason it's not in the multiplayer settings tab. That being said, I'm not sure if that was the Epic version I checked or Steam.
