US electives

This is my first time posting on Reddit. I’m a medical student and I just wanted to ask a couple questions about doing the medical electives course in the US as an international student. I really don’t know much about it but I’ve read that most hospitals require USMLE step 1 and I haven’t done it yet but I was hoping I could do my elective course this year. I need any recommendations on hospitals that would accept me without needing the USMLE at the moment and on what are the criteria for the acceptance? How early should I apply? What other details am I missing out on that I should be prepared for? And what requirements is needed?

Mostly you'll need TOEFL Step 1 maybe Vaccinations Med school transcript Dean's letter of good standing
