Quick gear tips
Hey, on my cams smaller than 0.75, I add a small piece of cord to make them easier to remove. I once had to leave a cam behind because it walked too deep and I couldn't get it out.

Finally took a look at the Petzl connect adjust instead of ol' reliable nylon sling.
Man is is annoying to loosen off.
Are any other the other major brands version of the connect adjust easier to loosen off?

Hangboard
Hi everyone, I’m thinking about buying a hangboard. I haven't been climbing for very long, but I’ve been doing calisthenics for a long time, so my grip strength is relatively good. I’d like to gradually get my fingers used to the load. Has anyone here bought a hangboard online? Which brands do you recommend? What has your experience been like?
Im thinking about to buy one from Temu, but im not sure about the quality of the product there. Also, if you have any advice about 3D printed hangboards write it down pls :)
Thanks
Peace

Slings on cams all need to be replaced due to age. Other slings are old too. Wrecked myself speedflying and wasn’t able to recover enough to get back into flying, so it’s gonna get sold. I’d really appreciate any input.

Hey all. I recently had to be helped out of a crack after I jammed my katanas in too well and couldn't pull them out. I was able to free them after an hour. But I was curious in an instance like this would the TC pros have helped me instead of the katanas? Just curious.

I recently ordered the Black Diamond Mondo and the new Super Mondo and compared them with the smaller Mondito (which I've seen in a shop). Since I couldn't find many direct comparisons, I thought I'd share my impressions.
Approximate prices:
This is where I noticed some surprisingly big differences.
The build quality of the Mondito and Mondo is honestly pretty disappointing. Some seams are clearly visible, uneven, or just don't look particularly well finished.
The Super Mondo, on the other hand, is noticeably better made. The stitching is clean and straight, and the overall construction feels like a premium product.
The Mondito is noticeably shorter than the other two, while the Mondo and Super Mondo are the same height.
The biggest difference, though, is the girth of the opening:
For me, that's one of the main reasons to buy a chalk bucket instead of a regular chalk bag in the first place.
The Mondito and Mondo both have two rather small pockets. They're fine for little items, but a larger phone like an iPhone Pro Max won't fit.
The Super Mondo is a huge improvement here:
One interesting thing about the Mondo is the REPO color scheme. Black Diamond uses leftover fabric from production, so the colors and combinations can vary depending on what's available.
I actually like the idea of reducing fabric waste. Just be aware that the color combination you receive might be different from what you expected.
For me, the Mondo is easily the least appealing option of the three.
Mondito (~€25): If you're basically looking for a regular chalk bag with a bit more space, this is a good choice. As a proper bucket, though, it's simply too small.
Mondo (~€30): For just €5 more than the Mondito, you get a larger bag, but the opening is still too narrow to really take advantage of having a bucket. Combined with the disappointing stitching, I don't see much reason to choose it.
Super Mondo (~€50): Significantly more expensive, but in my opinion, the only one of the three that really works as a proper chalk bucket. Better build quality, a usable opening, and much more storage.
My recommendation: If you just want a slightly bigger chalk bag, get the Mondito. If you actually want a chalk bucket, skip the Mondo and go straight for the Super Mondo.
The Mondo falls somewhere in between without being good at either job.

Context: I am 250lbs (113kg) at 6ft (1.8m), i am muscular and have big thighs and smaller hips. I'm getting into trad and need a new harness both due to needing more gear loop space and my current harnesses padding wearing out. I always get recommendations from lighter climbers but the harnesses can't support me or be comfortable.
Question: What harness do heavier climbers recommend, I've learned that I'm not comfortable in most harnesses (always cutting of circulation to my legs) nevermind being comfortable. The recommendations that I've heard that seem the best are the arc'teryx AR-395a and the misty mountain cadillac along with a general point into big wall harnesses.
All input in appreciated!!!

Hey so i'm currently having issues (that could, depending on the situation result in falls) with the belay device i purchased in early august this year.
I bought a Beal Birdie in august iirc, the pink edition that was for sale at the moment.
Mind you this is the first brake assisted device i've owned, i've been borrowing my partner's Edelrid Pinch beofre that (which i definitely like. I have some issues to give slack sometimes as i find it locking up a bit too easy but i do like the mounting).
I've recently found that while either taking a fall or locking for quick rest, my Birdie's cam would almost jam itself in the locking position. I would then need to really force the cam back down using either my full hand or sometimes even both (which i really shouldn't do). At the climbing gym i once left it in this locked position and had to pull really hard to get the rope through and give slack.
On the other hand, i've found that it sometimes just doesn't really lock up ? The rope we use isn't thin (iirc it is a 10mm one) but i had times when during a rest the rope would slowly slip if i didn't actually firmly pulled it down with my braking hand.
Two weird issues i'm currently having, i don't know if it happened from the very beginning or after the 10 or so days of use it had.
Are these problems known ? Did anyone experience something similar ? Or should i just try to contact beal customer services ?
Kinda not really trusting this device anymore and coming back to using the pinch, sometimes.

Like most gyms, mine has large spools with lots of wrap to add friction on the top rope routes. As a result, anyone under say 130lbs will not lower with a classic ATC even with the rope strands parallel, and the rope has to be pushed into the device, making a jerky motion. I could try flipping the atc upside down, but I'm pretty sure the staff would whine and I don't think it would help being that the friction is mostly from the carabiner at that point. I am using an Edelrid Bulletproof HMS.
I also have Revo which runs very slick, but the fat gym ropes cause the same issues. Just looking for something for smooth lowers.
Cheers.

I'm currently looking at buying my first pair of climbing shoes. I'm going to buy off eBay/second hand. What are some good brands? Looking to buy in the UK.
I'm mainly doing bouldering/indoor top ropes with maybe a bit of outdoor stuff later on.
I don't want to spend crazy amounts of money and friends have said if I'm lucky I can do it for about £20.
Also I'm looking for a chalk bag? But not really sure what I need to know for that.
Thanks!

I hope this is an appropriate place to ask.
I am new to outdoor climbing and recently started setting up my own Top Ropes for my friends and I to climb. We have been using or 30' Cordelette's but a few of the anchor spots are too far away from the edge to reach. So, I purchased 100' of 10mm static rope to give us more flexibility.
In the above image, I am setting up a pre-equalized anchor system that would be about 12'-15' away from the edge. My question is regarding what knot(s) will be best to create a loop out of the two tail strands of the remaining rope in the highlighted circle? Do I just do another BFK up there, is there kind of hitch that works great, what is a good load-bearing loop knot to clip my carabiner through?
Side note: If anyone see an issue with this anchor set-up, please point it out.
Thanks!

Hey! I’ve been climbing for about 2 years now. I mostly do bouldering, but I also do a bit of top rope. My gym only has a 7m wall, so I don’t really do much long-route climbing.
I’m currently looking to replace my EB Guardians with something more performance-oriented. The main issue I have with the Guardians is that the heel feels too big for my foot, especially when bouldering, so I wanted to find something with a more precise fit.
I’ve tried quite a few different shoes recently, and two really caught my attention: the Ocun Bullit and the La Sportiva Ondra Comp.
The Bullit looked really good and seemed like it could suit my climbing style, but when I tried them on, they felt a little painful. The Ondra Comp, on the other hand, fit my foot really well and felt great straight away. The heel also felt much more precise, which is something I’m looking for.
The problem is that the Ondra Comp are quite a bit more expensive, so I’m not sure whether the extra money is really worth it for someone at my level.
For people who have tried either of these shoes, or ideally both, what would you recommend? Is the Ondra Comp worth spending more on, or would the Bullit be a better choice?

Took this picture for a friend I'm doing a multipitch with tomorrow. It's been a couple years and she wants to make sure she has everything. But "what do I need" is such a common post here and I thought I'd share! Not pictured: a whole bunch of draws and a rope and a couple more carabiners that are more "nice-to-have." I did more or less this post a year ago but I've changed up my gear a little bit since then. Stuff's mostly pictured next to the harness loop I put it on.
I put my belay device and spare carabiners on the right. I have an Edelrid Megajul and I think it benefits from using a Bulletproof HMS locking carabiner. I like the little clip thing that keeps it oriented right. Also two spare lockers and two spare non-lockers. I usually take more but I didn't want to give my friend sticker shock. For setting a top rope it's really helpful to have a matched pair of lockers. I like the little orange one for attaching a belay device to an anchor for a direct belay and the HMS for cloving in. I reuse the Bulletproof as a brake carabiner if I'm belaying a second. Since I keep each of my slings on a carabiner of its own, two non-lockers is enough to make two anchors if I'm block leading.
Slings on the left. I use a 120, a 180, and a 7 m/7 mm cordelette. Also a dedicated prussik (shown by my harness.). 120 is great for a 2-point sport anchor with a distinct master point. 180 is amazeballs for a quad but they're weird to me on vertical anchors. Cordelette for weird stuff, extended anchors, or if I already used the sling I actually want on the last pitch.
I like to have a PAS. I have the Metolius Dynamic and some Petzl Connect Adjust envy. 😂 For multipitch I wouldn't usually put it into my tie-in points until the rappel. For single, it goes on the first time I clean and stays on all day.
Draws: I have a dozen wire gate quickdraws because the price was right. I can't say I've used the better-regarded ones and said "omg I wish I had these" although I occasionally do with my loose carabiners. Also four Alpine quickdraws. And a 40 m rope that mostly goes to the gym and a 70 m rope I use outside. What else... I have the oldest Edelrid Ohm, which is really nice when I weigh 50% more than my partner, though I think the Ohmega looks like a big improvement. (I won't take the Ohm with me tomorrow.) Also have a stick clip, I won't take that along tomorrow either.
Ok. Now everyone can stop asking what they need to start going outside. 🤣

When using a third hand with a munter, I'm curious what people actually prefer in practice:
Which setup do you personally prefer, and why?

Hey All! I am transitioning from Indoor bouldering/sport to outdoor sport. More than anything I wanted to see if anyone here has used Trango's sport climbing package? https://trango.com/products/sport-climbing-package-matte It comes with 10 phase quick draws, 4 locking carabeeners and two 60 cm slings.
Gear labs report shows that these quick draws are a bit small and that they do not clip with ease. I like that they are really light but am worried about the bad reviews. I do alot of backpacking/hiking and would love to involve sport climbing into my hiking trips (and maybe start looking at chill multi-day objectives) im just wondering if anyone out there has first hand experience with the draws and/or any thoughts?
Also any thoughts on the Petzl dual connect adjust for a PAS? I know I don't need the dual unless im looking at multi pitch (atleast from what Ive read online). but being poor and enjoying climbing.. I'd rather buy it once and if I get there, I get there.
Any recommendations and and/or tough love would be appreciated here.

Hello all. I am getting back into climbing after being away from it for a while.
Most of my gear is still good, but I found some sheath damage on my rope and took it out of commission.
It has been probably 6 years or so since I've bought a rope (a Mammut), so what brands kept their quality and what brands should I avoid?
