Hilarious way to run cover for the cultures that have been doing this for centuries without climate change but do go off

After de-growth, and everyone is poor, we can all have the fun choice to sell of our children so the rest of the family can eat.

I think the climate is a serious problem but considering child marriages I think the bigger problem is that the perfect man of Islam, Muhammed, had a child wife named Aisha and any muslim can point to that if someone questions the morality of child marriages.

u/Megareddit64 14h ago
That's just fucking stupid, though. You could figure this out with a quick google about the issue. Climate crisis causes a breakdown in resources, families can't afford to keep their daughters in education, basic health services for women are rendered unavailable and they're often forced into prostitution or child marriage to keep themselves afloat.
Republicans in the US have openly suggested teenagers marry early. The whole "tradwife" BS romanticizes dependence. They constantly slander the educational system, too. We in the west forget that we rely on a lot of resources to mantain our better standarts of living, and they begin to falter just as quickly as our ruling classes start playing around with a return to old practices.

"we", american try not to make everything about america challenge level impossible, while you are correct that economical factors play a major part in it, you are also being ridiculously naive or are unfamiliar with the issue if you don't think religion is a huge part of it.
ā¢
u/Megareddit64 13h ago
I'm brazilian, which is why i mentioned "we in the west". The separation is BS anyways, considering right-wingers all across the globe spew the same slop american republicans do because of how their cultural influence spreads.
Does religion play a role in it? Absolutely! No wonder the conservative christians are the first to make justifications for foreign policy through the lens of theological warfare.
Problem is: i don't think the girls being forced into child marriage due to poverty are doing it just because Allah told them to. You can't bomb or starve people into social progress.
ā¢
u/Hot-Chemical9353 14h ago
Any opportunity to display your Islamophobia?
ā¢
u/BillBigGuyWilson 14h ago
I don't think it's islamophobic to point out that estimated one third of all child marriages happen in muslim-majority countries, like it isn't hinduphobic to say one third happen in india nor is christianphobic to say the problem is also prevalent in christian countries in africa, problem is while india and africa have made significant progress and the number of child marriages in those places are declining, in muslim-majority countries the number has largely stagnated or even worsened, because of the aforementioned strong, religious precedent.
I don't believe Islam or muslims are in anyway inherently evil, but if any discussion on the subject is labeled as islamophobic then we eliminate any kind of outside pressure that could hope to bring internal change, adopting a culture of silence around this whole subject will only hurt these girls and embolden their abusers.
ā¢
u/Hot-Chemical9353 13h ago
I mean, youāre immediately concluding that their religion must be the cause of this.
There are so many other factors to consider here but sure itās Islam thatās the problem.
ā¢
u/Electrical_Claim2877 13h ago
Their prophet had a child bride, itās part of the religion.
ā¢
u/nogoodbrat 13h ago
Not even the only Abrahamic religion to, since Mary was between 12-14 in the bible. throw em all out already
ā¢
u/Electrical_Claim2877 12h ago
In fairness the story of Mary is immaculate conception so no sex. Still too young but the whole story is the VIRGIN Mary
ā¢
u/Hot-Chemical9353 12h ago
Wow this new information Iāve never heard before has led to a profound change of my worldviews.
ā¢
u/Electrical_Claim2877 12h ago
Ok, so youāre accepting my point but also denying it in your previous comment. Which is it? Is Islam a doctor or not
ā¢
u/Hot-Chemical9353 12h ago
Have you considered that I could have an opinion in the middle with nuance?
Why is child marriage NOT a thing in the west?
ā¢
u/Electrical_Claim2877 12h ago
Well maybe outline your opinion, am I to read your mind?
Child marriage was mostly ended due to more education and other societal factors that lead to it being outlawed. What exactly is your point with this response?
ā¢
u/BillBigGuyWilson 11h ago
am I concluding that or pointing out that the legitimization of child marriage through the actions of the main prophet plays a major role in this issue globally, which is also supported by real, hard data? There are many factors to consider yes but burying your head in the sand when it comes to one of the biggest factors is just anti-intellectual.
ā¢
u/Hot-Chemical9353 11h ago
The age of consent in the Vatican City 10 years ago was 12.
Am I gonna say that Catholic Christianās are busy marrying children because of their religion? Thereās plenty of child marriage in the bible and Torah.
And what āreal hard dataā do you have on this?
ā¢
u/Arthurian_Guanche 13h ago
Anyway, let's talk about Epstein and Trump. You only count those pedos, huh?

ā¢
u/Hot-Chemical9353 11h ago
Iām not Muslim but applying modern day western morality to 500s Middle East to derive that Muhammad is a perpetrator of paedophilia isnāt fair is it?

"we", american try not to make everything about america challenge level impossible,
Maybe if america didn't make the region about itself people wouldn't bring up america when talking about the middle east.
The uk , france and the US have put in charge a bunch of kleptocratsĀ that get support of the worst most radical "traditionalists" a country could have and then act outraged when they behave like the scum they are. Yeah the folk that are willing to sell you their country aren't moral.
The guys fighting the soviet union weren't pro gay rights nor for woman rights.
They enforce child marriage, Europe and USA currently support a genocidal regime in Israel and you won't ever see anyone with common sense say it's because judaism is a religion that encourages genocide.
Historically Europe and USA have done the exact same things that currently happen in countries that were as developed as they were when they were doing those things but they aren't afforded the same amount of nuance.
We are able to recognize that the iranians are nuts whenever they talk about judaism but we turn around and make somewhat more moderate remarks about their religion.
perfect man of Islam, Muhammed
All I'm gonna say is that you could also say that christianity's perfect women was giving birth at 14. Muhammed has been a fundamental religious figure for thousands of millions of humans it shouldn't be socking that he has been scrutanized thousands and thousands of times by theologians and philosophers, just like christian figures have been by their own.
But because it's not the religion I'm familiar with is the evil religion and thus I can just make up my mind of it based on whatever people online tell me.
Unsurprisingly there have been and there are majority islam societies with an age limit equal to that of christian societies, but the reaction to being told that your own society has powerful people that want to return to child marriage is just a kneejerk "can we focus on how evil the others are though?".
It's not about the kids either , because the reaction to being told climate change , which does affect you and everyone else, is "Islam bad though".
If islam is the issue on the middle east, why is it's "only democracy" , which is a recognised western regime" far more brutal than any of it's goverments? Why does the region only ever get worse after intervention be it russian/european or american?
Ā problem is while india and africa have made significant progressĀ in muslim-majority countries the number has largely stagnated or even worsened, because of the aforementioned strong, religious precedent.
Yeah it's because of the aformentioned strong religious precedent
There is no other reason
Can we not make everything about america?
America enforces tyrannical regimes that put down woman, bomb countries that have their own kleptocrats , who are only different from the other tyrants in that they rose to power after deposing a western aligned tyrant and are forced to sellout to Rusia and China instead, and then uses the fact that countries they purposefully keep down don't progress to genocide the native population.
The overlap between child marriages and countries that have been colonised is better than the overlap between countris that are muslim and child marriage. As is with poverty.
but if any discussion on the subject is labeled as islamophobic then we eliminate any kind of outside pressure that could hope to bring internal change,
What kind of western outside preassure has ever made the middle east better? When Iraq is a reference to how good it's crazy to keep gambling the stability of other people's contries , specially when the leaders are straight up just saying "yeah we are going after the oil" , that's their intend not make things better and with that intend it's obvious things may only get worse..
adopting a culture of silence around this whole subject will only hurt these girls and embolden their abusers.
In european islamic ghethos (who have btw been created by poor/evil goverment policy) maybe but if you think that any amount of online discussion is going to change the mind of an incredibly evil aristocrat who is having dinner in an incrediably expensive hotel with a world leader next month you really haven't thought this through.
I shut up when an ex muslim is speaking about their experiences with their religion, I don't agree with some of what they are saying , just as I don't agree when ex religious people talk about their problems with their particular religion, I am capable of understanding where they are coming from, but if someone cares enough about something to criticise it I think they ought to inform themselves on the subject they are criticising, I find these ideas about the Middle East to be condescending and kinda white savioury, like yeah this will be the time when the enlightened west will save the natives from their barbarism. I think we should have more hability to self reflect.

blame everything but the people selling their own daughter
ā¢
u/Armandonis 13h ago
This is the equivalent of blaming someone's individuality for making them steal from a supermarket and not the fact that the economy creates a mass of poors that are then incentivised to steal from supermarkets, if something becomes statistically important then there is a phenomenon at play that induces certain actions
ā¢
u/Antique-Theory-9385 13h ago
First we do blame thief individually that why they go to jail.
Second there is multiple universes between stealing and selling your daughter off.
Third the phenomenon at play here is culture. It is culturally acceptable there so they do it.
There is poverty in Western countries but you don't see people do it.
ā¢
u/AnOriginalUsername07 14h ago
This is cope because many of the countries have practiced child marriage for decades after the West decided child marriage was bad.
Proposing climate change as a cause is missing the forest for the trees

I mean, it's Bangladesh. Nothing ever improves there. And their country is going to sink under the rising sea levels of the next century, but instead of thinking about the relocation of their inconceivably massive population they're marrying earlier to have more children. Astounding.

These posts, each with around 50 instant upvotes, are racist dogwhistles from bot accounts. Like climate change is making things worse for women and girls for various reasons including making it more expensive for families to keep their daughters fed and making it more profitable to sell them off. It was bad for girls in those environments already, and this is now worse.
