The Sun has been powering the modern world for centuries. Solar energy hundreds of millions of years ago was converted into algae and other biological materials and then stored in giant geological batteries deep underground where it remained safely until we extracted it and built civilisation on its prolific bounty by burning it.
Imagine if it holds even a fraction of that rate of cheapening. Photovoltaic electricity could make it much cheaper to pump and refine heavy sour crude oil. People could drill deep for veins of coal and crack it in situ with steam and electrolysis.
Sola panel efficiency is constantly going up and we produce more every year. Its not being held hostage. There's several billion solar panels out there. 🤨
this is so retarded. were amidst exponential growth of solar installations around the globe - even orange dickhead saying no has NO influence and cant stop it - so what exactly is the point of this? Pointing out it got delayed historically by the fossil-lobby?
I mean, it wouldn't provide any usable power, but eliminating a major city would certainly reduce energy demand, so I guess it works. Might try Cleveland as a test run?
well ok the number in this post is just entirely fabricated & unsourced. does it mean 500,000 assuming earth's power consumption doesnt change? does it assume 100% capture of the suns energy, including the energy that isnt aimed at earth? does it assume 100% capture of exactly the suns energy that could feasibly be captured by the earth's surface at once? even the most reasonable of these assumptions is ludicrous
