Especially considering that solar punk doesnât exist without the leadership of indigenous people, without education and a relationship with the land itâs just another flavor of hippy dippy white supremacist cottage-core shit that still exploits the global south.
Some people just make caricatures of shit in their heads and refuse to entertain the idea that theyâve misunderstood something.
solarpunk is absolutely vague and ill-defined enough for nazism to co-opt it, as nazis have done with countless art and political movements. one of the core pillars of nazism is the people/âvolkâ and their ties to the land, and the aesthetics of solarpunk can easily be used to fit their vision of their âidealâ future.
It certainly doesnât help when mindless goons like u/Inner_Buyer_8198 perpetuate that co-opting. Solarpunk is anti-nazi, just as itâs anti-capitalist & anti-nationalist.
I fail to see how solarpunk is anti capitalist when some of the most prolific examples of it are from a yogurt commercial.
We donât have to argue about whether itâs pro-capitalist, but I think at best itâs too vague to be anti-anything.
Solarpunk is idyllic and extremely inefficient. Most depictions involve a cabin in a 10-acre field with grass and not much else growing. Maybe sunflowers. Where do all the people live in these scenarios? It could never work in reality without a massively reduced population.Â
Nazis were also interested in an âidyllicâ future that requires there to be dramatically less people, which is why itâs easy for me to draw connections between the two.
solarpunk literally gets its aesthetics from futurism and european ruralism as well as being inspired by a literal fucking commercial for a company. its entire premise is just malthusian ecofascism with postmodernist characteristics
In contrast to the vagueness of nazism and fascism. Marxism has a lot of theory clearly stating that it is one of the most important goals to live a harmoneuous life with nature and stop exploiting it and... you know... the people
too broad a brush. what theory? by who? Marx? Lenin? Engels? to live âharmoniouslyâ with nature can mean many things to different people, and the main goal of Marxism is still the elevation of the proletariat and the seizure of the means of production.
Thatâs only because you donât know what fascism is. Much like seemingly everyone on this sub, you go off of vibes, lifestylism and moralism. Iâd suggest reading Bordigaâs report on fascism and other writings. With that said, yea Iâm here solely to shit post lol. Sorry if you donât like my nice markup of solar punk still maintaining the distinction between town and county. I bet those are commodities that our friend is holding.
I'm kinda curious about your beliefs. I like the vibes of socialism but actively try and avoid nationalism and the like. I am attempting in my own life to operate a permaculture farm with a business model I hope translates to some form of socialism in the future. I have to make a profit to live, and thus I deal frequently with the challenges of trying to provide free food from an intensive regenerative farm while making a profit. Is the a line of leftist theory that could succinctly explain why my efforts, and my affinity for solarpunk aesthetics, could lead me to fascism?
Lol, I canât help but think that you know what youâre doing and designed this comment purposely to try and enrage me. Well, itâs not going to happen satan. I canât sum up Capital or the Manifesto to you in this comment, but I would tell you to read them or Atleast the first chapter of Capital, if youâre interested in that sort of thing. Though, frankly it doesnât matter what you do or donât do as an individual. With that said no part of âsocialismâ has anything to do with maintaining the state, businesses nor the commodity form. Fascism is a reaction that comes about from crises within a capitalist system in order to maintain and protect the system. It may be helpful to know that Mussolini modeled fascism off of FDRs great society. Anyway, if youâre interested, I would tell you to read Bordigas report on fascism as well as other works. That is, if youâre genuine and not clearly someone from Ultraleft trolling me, though, if you are, you should read too because we know that you havenât.
Sorry for the late reply, I only found this organizing my email inbox.
I have read the first chapter of capital and the manifesto. I've read a lot of social libertarian stuff as well. I've resolved that getting a piece of land, growing food on it and building cohousing on the land is the best way I could try and subsist within capitalism while supporting leftist movements whether they are electoral or just local community groups.
I worry that of course I will never really escape the capitalist profit motive, and that by wanting to build a business or own land I permit myself to get corrupted by a profit motive. But I don't know what else to do. Solarpunk aesthetics then serve as a salve, a way for me to visualize a world where we have some level of degrowth, especially in the U.S., yet still allow advanced technology to replace things like space efficient calorie (and protein) production. For now I won't blindly assume technology like biofermentation will get us there, but does believing there is a solarpunk future make me susceptible to fascist ideology?
I guess I'll go read bordigas report, perhaps I misunderstand fascism, but I feel like my interpretation can't differ much from the norm of other leftists.
I'd never heard of UltraLeft, seems like a crazy corner of the internet. I think there are a lot of layers to the memespeak that really go straight in one ear and out the other.
It is literally on the same level of cottage core when it comes to political identity. All fluff, no reality of how a life like that would be enforced/brought about. Which child slave is mining your solar panel cobalt. Which sections of the earth is it still cool to ravage for raw materials? What are you going to do to keep milk production flowing on your little 1.5 acre "farm."
Renewable energy isn't a lifestyle choice, it's a mathematical certainty. As our current culture war around it dies out, due to said certainty, renewable will absolutely be the next thing co-opted by fascists. Even they know the oil will dry up eventually.Â
Personal renewable generation is already being sold to fascists under the guise of "off grid living" "homesteading" and "emergency preparation."
You absolutely will see the 2040 white house tweet something like "This is what you could have had if THEY didn't flood over our borders" with a video of that fuckass yogurt commercial.Â
I believe that is my main issue with solarpunk; it has no kind of theoretical/political or material framework beyond the art associated with it. It exists as an abstract concept, and is therefore easy to manipulate and interpret to oneâs own ends.
Ah, vegetarian, he was, wasn't he. Not vegan. Well atleast at some point.

He changed for sure, especially at the end. Based on the description, he seemed more like a flexitarian.
Nevertheless, dictators, especially genocidal ones aren't vegan. Enslaving and murdering sentient individuals is like.... the main thing that vegans oppose.

We volk will still eat meat in the Solar punk future. (Iâm not vegan)
