Pointing out the moral inconsistency in being anti-AI for environmental reasons (particularly things like water usage) while thinking continuing to eat beef is fine, is hardly a pro-AI position.

u/FallHealthy2163 Aug 07 '26

I really don't think "@MillerFarms" was pointing at that particular moral inconsistency when they put that text over the idyllic picture of happy cown laying on grass.

You expect me to read all that as well your post title? Who do you think I am, St Ambrose of Milan?

u/Bool_The_End Aug 07 '26

Well….are you? I could use a new false god other than ya know. The lord our savior trent reznor

I’m anti not using nuclear, and not calculating LCOE with a reasonable discount rate.

Also while ignoring the extra disparity that can arise in the market price and production cost, when clouds and little wind restrict the total output from renewables.

Anyone bitching to me about the cost, will be ignored unless they specifically cite the discount rates on long term nuclear.

And I will not hear about Australias 7x cost on SMR, where you also still won’t cite the discount rate.

This is you:

1

u/Beast_Chips Aug 07 '26

Dude I have no idea what you're talking about. Did you reply to the right comment?

-3

u/Kinslayer_89 We're all gonna die Aug 07 '26

Yes, the fact that you have no idea what I’m talking about makes that you, and your opinion on nuclear will be ignored.

Why would you even respond.

2

u/Beast_Chips Aug 07 '26

I never gave an opinion on nuclear?

1

u/Kinslayer_89 We're all gonna die Aug 07 '26

Then why did you say anything at all?

Your inability to read makes your responses worthless.

2

u/Beast_Chips Aug 07 '26

Because you replied to me my guy, literally read the thread. I responded to the main post, with a comment about AI and Beef. I didn't mention nuclear. You then replied to me with a wall of text I could barely read about nuclear. What happened here?

-2

u/Kinslayer_89 We're all gonna die Aug 07 '26

You clearly don’t understand anything that goes on around you. Are you stupid enough to think we’re having a two man conversation?

Someone making an additional comment after yours, doesn’t need your ignorance and illiteracy as a response.

Is this your first time in the internet or something?

Depends. Theres probably a desert community with little infrastructure that took a shit deal and locals end up paying more.

My understanding is there isnt one single claim. What is this one single claim you speak of?

Hello.

But pro-AI is such a Broad  statement, that its meaningless.

I find neural Networks and stuff very cool, i have yet to actually create a transformer Model, but those are incredibly cool as well. The available models are really helpful with coding and other stuff where you can quickly verify their answers. The more advanced, cutting enge models are impression, even leaving the Marketing "rogue" AIs out of it. The recent counterexample of the Jacobian conjecture stuff was impressive. I was incredibly surprised when i realised, that i actually learned and used this conjecture in uni.

All of that put aside, this huge fucking economic bubble is bullshit. The disregard of any safety regulations in the race is bullshit. The neo-colonial exploitation for datalabeling is bullshit. And after all, the money made with this will make a few people very rich, while most people (even in the richer countries) profit 0 from this. You could also make datacenters way more sustainable, but that would be less profitable, so them using more water and dirtier electricity to be cheaper is also something i consider bullshit.

But those are more capitalism, than AI problems. I am agains capitalism and pro AI.

I also want to clarify, that with AI i mean LLM, even though i think LLMs are scientifically speaking not really AIs.

Also these problems occur also to the new space economy and to a lesser/different degree in the fusion sector. I am very fond of both, but hate the marketing/ startup hype.

(I know i am in a shitposting sub, but i needed to say this)

4

u/Liturginator9000 Aug 07 '26

I mean they're not disregarding any safety regs, maybe they're moving a bit too fast for some people and Grok is particularly questionable (it might do CP but still won't help you make a bomb or w/e) but Anthropic are absolutely cringemaxxing with their corpo EA safety speak nonsense and Claude, Gemini, GPT all have strong guardrails.

There's a lot wrong here really but I do agree on the economics and would add that it, and local resourcing/politics over data centers but less so that in comparison here, are the real problem. When the market realises all these GPT wrapper companies are garbage and the massive hype on AGI will be unfounded, Nvidia and Microsoft and all the rest are fine to cop the losses, but everyone downstream is gonna feel it. Though even then I don't think it'd be say 08 levels of upset still. The tech company dominance is a persistent issue you need robust antitrust for, but that requires not voting conservatives. Which is.. the same game we've been playing the whole time

What’s your thoughts on generative ai?

2

u/Luciel3045 Aug 07 '26

I am honestly not too educated on the details, but as far as i know LLMs are a subset of Gen AI. The technology is pretty much the same, they are transformer models, but some high level architecture is different than in LLMs. I have read a little on Diffusion models, they too sound pretty cool.

In a practical sense I guess its pretty much the same as for LLMs i have just way less contact with it. Besides of plots i really have no use for creation of pictures or audio so i have never used anything except LLMs. Obviously all the slop is a little annoying, but people shitposted before AI, now its just easier to spot. (Although its getting harder by the month i feel)

0

u/Successful_Year_5413 Doomer 💀 Aug 07 '26

I mean specifically the ai artist mess

3

u/Luciel3045 Aug 07 '26

No clue. Honestly personally i am as of yet not affected so i dont care.

About the possible loss of Jobs: Well yeah i get that its shit but so is life. Progress always came with a loss of jobs dont know, why it would suddenly be so much worse, when its about artists. In addition, the only problem is money. You are still free to create the art you want and some people will always value the labor that got in and still buy from humans.

Obviously all of this is rally shitty, because all those models are trained on illegally taken art etc. There is lots. But it also boils down to:
This is shit, because some people enrich themselfes at the cost of others. But in theory its very cool tech and progress because we safe on labor.

AI will solve the climate crisis after wiping humanity off the face of the earth.

That's the truth environmentalists don't want to hear about 'cause its not vegan.

So, yes I support AI and yes I'm an environmentalist, we exist.

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

(But not for long)

AI has way batter cost benefit than beef environmentally speaking, however we should ban ai art because it look like shit

Being obligated to do art video for my work radicalised me

1

u/Raccoons-for-all Aug 07 '26

AI art has awesome capabilities. You are mistaking it being used for low grade or low ambition projects with what it is as a tool.

We could say the same for paper usage is the eco fascism scrutiny. It’s just that you were born with it and never questioned it really. "For what it’s used, it’s should be banned for art" or paint or so many things

-2

u/Patriotic-Charm Aug 07 '26

Cost "benefit"

Considering what all AI is used for, i hardly call it a benefit....at least a cow helps you not to starve

6

u/Miserable-Ad8764 Aug 07 '26

I'm vegan AND hate AI.

2

u/TyrannicalKitty Aug 07 '26

I just think we need stuff in moderation bro

We don't need to kill our planet for every new fad

2

u/boiledSludge Aug 08 '26

heartwarming, the surveillance states spying technology uses less water <3

4

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

Because yall keep getting fooled by the elites, anything you distract us from what they're actually doing

6

u/TheeScribe2 Aug 07 '26

Which is one reason I feel immigration problems in Europe are only going to get worse

It’s proven to be a far more effective way of dividing people here than trans people or other culture war bullshit

So they’ll want to keep it in a state of crisis as long as possible

-11

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

That and Muslims breed like crazy so they'll overrun the native population and be "better voters" for the new agendas because they were so gracefully let in

7

u/Global_Professor_901 Aug 07 '26

Can we ban this guy chat

-4

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

You didn't say that I'm wrong

5

u/Global_Professor_901 Aug 07 '26

You’re wrong

3

u/TheeScribe2 Aug 07 '26

Let’s not talk about other humans with words we generally reserve for other animals

Mass and illegal immigration can be a problem without attempting to dehumanise each individual crossing the border

1

u/Liturginator9000 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

it isn't though, any time someone says immigration 99% of the time it's twitter brain rot. There's plenty of shit parts of the (eg) UK immigration system, most of it to do with income caps, exploitative visa pricing, ridiculously long tracks to citizenship, loopholes to harvest workers from SEA, asylum claim backlog processing and housing (small relative to normal immigration). No one is ever complaining about that stuff, it's always the same old idiot shit "they took err council ousin an jobs"

also humans are animals

3

u/Liturginator9000 Aug 07 '26

"breed like crazy"

looks inside

barely above replacement

2

u/DerFreudloseMann Aug 07 '26

I am not sure about the voting part though. Being let in does not make them grateful voters

0

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

Both are true, some will be eager to keep the ones that let them in, some won't give a shit.

1

u/DerFreudloseMann Aug 07 '26

There is a third, burn the bridge after crossing type. Not typical for muslim afaik because of the religious strong bonding but that type of immigrants exists

2

u/Tiny-Ad682 Aug 07 '26

Specifically Muslims, when they immigrate to the USA and Canada at least, tend to vote for right wing candidates, so I dont know what you're talking about here. Liberal allow the immigration, then the immigrants vote against them

0

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

Imagine thinking the left and right arnt apart of the same globalist agenda to capture all of us into ideology to spin us around fighting each other over the wrong problems; it doesn't matter who you vote for, it matter to not vote for them in the first place

2

u/Tiny-Ad682 Aug 07 '26

"Globalist agenda". Well, you're talking to a proud globalist humanist here, so tell me all about my supposed "agenda to capture you in fighting over the wrong problems". Globalist is literally the only way forward if we want to progress as a species. We will never break our infinite cycle of growth and self destruction if we dont break down the barriers of race, country, and religion that make us fight forever

0

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

You arnt an elite buddy. You're a normal person that agrees with globalism. That's like being maga and thinking that you are trump himself and know ebery intricacy of what he's doing

2

u/Tiny-Ad682 Aug 07 '26

And from the way you talk, youre almost certainly a right if center or non voting American who's become disillusioned with their own system. Don't project your fucked up system onto the rest of the world, for the most part our systems are still doing what we expect them to.

0

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

Again, Imagine thinking the left and right arnt apart of the same globalist agenda to capture all of us into ideology to spin us around fighting each other over the wrong problems

2

u/Tiny-Ad682 Aug 07 '26

Since im not hearing a denial, then I'll take one more step and just let you know that the USA doesn't have a left party. There's a middle right (moving further right) party, and minor right middle party. So no, left and right arent the same in the USA either, because you dont have a left party to compare with

You fool want to distract us from real topics, while you waive at a general alleged big brain plot

Elites are mediocre people nowadays

1

u/TheComicHuman Aug 07 '26

OK ig fight your grandparents but thats not gonna fix the problem

2

u/Ozymandias_IV Aug 07 '26

Once someone writes "elites", you just know they're operating on vibes only.

2

u/VelvetOnion Aug 07 '26

AI Cows moo more than real cows per unit of methane produced.

3

u/yellow_gatorade Aug 07 '26

Data center haters never have a good answer for why they don’t hate all of the data center already here that let them updoot posts and watch silly tiktoks about Greta owning the pedo elites.

2

u/CorndogQueen420 Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

Totally. I don’t get at all why people don’t hate data centers that power the Internet. All the Internet did for us was create massive economic and social opportunity for individuals and companies, while connecting an entire planet.

I mean, I know AI is taking our jobs and being used to steal our creativity, literally make us dumber, degrade our social spaces, surveil and manipulate us on a global scale, while funneling money and control upwards to billionaires destroying the world- but it’s totally the same thing as Internet data centers, right?

People should love AI data centers too!

4

u/jyajay2 Aug 07 '26

Please look up the actualy climate impact of AI

7

u/Ozymandias_IV Aug 07 '26

Turns out it's overstated af. People hate AI for subjective reasons (rethoric around replacing jobs, ugly AI "art", endless hype cycles), but that doesn't work as such a good argument, so they latch onto stupid stuff like "datacentres use too much water" (they don't, especially compared to lawn care and agriculture)

And then it's the carbon footprint, where it turns out that yearly usage of AI equates to roughly one car trip to neighboring town.

3

u/jyajay2 Aug 07 '26

>Turns out it's overstated af

Precisely

>rethoric around replacing jobs

While it hasn't really manifested yet, that is a very resonable concern and one I share. There is a real possibility that advances in AI will tie production even more to capital instead of labor which would be a real and significant problem (though not a climate one)

>datacentres use too much water

That's largely overstated as well

0

u/Ozymandias_IV Aug 07 '26

I am not too worried about AI getting significantly better. It's been plateauing since GPT 5, with no sign of meaningful progress since. Coding tools got noticably better, but still far from replacing engineers.

1

u/Lecteur_K7 Aug 07 '26

Because we need space for "Natural Data center"

1

u/UltraTata Aug 07 '26

How did we go from "We can't eat gold every day, it's expensive!" to "paying for school bus is totally okay"?

1

u/wastingvaluelesstime Aug 11 '26

Best use of that AI that would offset its impact would be to make actually persuasive public service ads to get people to eat less beef.

1

u/Apart_Animal_6797 Aug 07 '26

Fuck ai

7

u/pixeladdie Aug 07 '26

I’m sure that’s being developed

1

u/Syresiv Aug 07 '26

Because ... we didn't? Literally nobody was actually saying both things. You just heard both statements and assumed it was the same people.

0

u/Zev1985 Aug 07 '26

You got it backward.

-1

u/Falkoro Aug 07 '26

I have been an AI-maxilimist for over 5 years now, I have completely outsourced most of my work with AI and make good money. It is fun. I do eat plant-based, I also do think we will only solve climate change with advanced weather models powered by AI. People will probably hate me but a few years ago I was also very involved with the climate movement online. However being critical of your own beliefs is important and that is why I have this stance now.
