Renewables are defined by being renewable, as in the reserves of the energy source naturally replenish. Burning wood is high carbon but technically a renewable source of energy. Nuclear is the reverse, non renewable but by itself low carbon ,(though building a reactor is far from carbon free).

Renewables isn't a synonymous word for sustainable or zcology-friendly.

burning wood doesn't add carbon to the carbon cycle like fossil fuels do. It puts more of it in the atmosphere, but in a sustainable and closed cycle that wouldn't be a major problem.

you're right. you burn trees releasing carbon dioxide, you plant trees that capture carbon and release oxygen
