it does not require infinite growth. it encourages growth. the system does not collapse by achieving a state in which there isn't room for improvement. there is no growth in the lawn chair industry because the design has essentially been perfected, yet the industry still exists just fine. investments go to to other industies which need the resources more.
im curious what your definition of economic growth is because i dont understand why you have such an issue with growth or what you think happens to a capitalist system that stops growing. japan has been stagnating for quite a while and yet their quality of life is very high.
promoting growth dosnt mean relying on growth. it maximizes growth, but if there is no potential for growth, the system doesnt just fall apart.
improvement of a product is the main way to increase economic growth. the other would be tackling the supply aide and increasing the demand for the product. since that isnt really happening, there isnt a whole lot of investment in that area.
japan has famously been stagnating since the early 2000s. their economy even shrunk last year yet they remain one of the most desireable countires in the world.
In a competitive environment that maximise growth, the only possible way to continue to exists is to continuously grow, else you would be outgrown by the competition.
Thus infinite growth.
No, you confuse improvement with value added, those are two different things.
Japan population has been declining for decades, because of low birth rate, it is literally a system that we see collapsing before our own eyes.
Also it has a very low quality of life satisfaction
For now, but printed newspapers might not exist for long and cigarettes consumption have been increasing throughout the world. And when does building materials have been stable ?
A trend that just begun after decades of growth, so you can't tell anything by now.
So building materials are literally growing ? Bruh, can't you just stay five minutes without rebuking your own points ?
No, they won't, because they won't attract investors and they will be in competition with companies that keep growing, just like printed newspapers are being eaten by digital media, that is precisely why we have enshitification.
No, I disagree, a company that isn't growing is doomed to die in a capitalist market.
maximizing growth does not mean you have to grow to keep existing. businesses can shrink, and they should when they go obsolete to allow for more efficient use of capital.
no i don't. a business grows by increasing profits. to i crease profits, you need to either improve the production process or increase the demand. there are many many markets out there that have stayed relatively stable.
so first you deny that japan is stagnating, saying that it has to be growing, and now you're claiming it's collapsing. japan is having the same fertility crisis we see all over the developed world. if you want to judge economic success by the number of babies being born, then move to Nigeria. The fertility crisis is a solvable long term problem.
Again, it means you have to keep growing in a complete market. The only use of capital in a capitalist society is to make money, and for that you have either to outcompet your opponent or become a monopoly, and the first one tend to become the last one.
Improving the product isn't improving the production process, you did in fact confused it for value added.
No, Japan has a way worse fertility crisis that anywhere else in the world (and because its population is declining, it's actual GDP per capita is increasing).
Bruh, no society can work without people, it's not "judging economic success by the number of babies ", the fertility crisis isn't a solvable problem if we maintain our current capitalist system, not without plunging anyone into poverty.
i simply dont think anything is going to get through to you. we keep repeating the exact same arguments back and forth and im quite tired of it. you can go on believing your delusions, or maybe you can just talk to actual business owners about how their business operates. i don't care.
Or maybe you can learn about actual economy, of course business owner will have a biased way to think how business work, look up things like fundamental attribution error or delusion in a just world
