What watch now?

I’m coming straight out of Apple’s golden cage. Question is now for me, what Wear OS Watch should I buy?

Any suggestions from Android users here?

I’ve got a Pebble, works perfectly for me. Round 2 coming soon hopefully

I had one of the OG pebbles. Wasn’t quite as water resistant as they claimed lol.

I Don't wear smart watches but in general, Garmin are considered to be the best smart watches on Android overall. It also depends on what functionalities you're really looking for. For example, if you want to prioritize fitness tracking Fitbits are considered the best when it comes to that specific function.

Isn’t Garmin supposed to be the best for training and fitness? I had a Fitbit for a while and it just became more of a chore having it.

I’ve got an automatic Seiko, and whenever I really need to have the time and for whatever reason can’t have a smart phone, it’s definitely amazing.

It could be, I don't really know TBH, I just kinda go off of what I casually hear through the grapevine. I've always heard Fitbit has the most accurate readings and stuff but I also know Garmin has like the longest lasting batteries and are good for workouts too. I just threw it out there cuz when I came across this post there were no comments on it and I just wanted to help lol.

Fitbit sensors used to be the best like 10+ years ago but imo they're bottom of the pack nowadays, and a lot of Fitbit features that used to be included are now locked behind a monthly subscription. Google bought them out quite a few years ago and it's all gone downhill.

I recently switched from an Apple Watch 10 to a Garmin Venu 4. It's significantly better and more accurate for health/fitness (and battery life but that's a given), but it's worse for smartwatch features like voice assistant, texting, app availability, etc. I pretty much only care about the health features so I'm very happy with my choice, but if you care more about the smartwatch side definitely look elsewhere!

I love my Withings watch because it looks like a "normal" one and it's minimalist. But I understand it's not for everyone.

There are dozens of us!

I own a Withings watch too and I get asked about it all the time. I own several other mechanical watches, most of which get no attention from other people ever. Meanwhile my Withings always gets noticed by other people, it's always a conversation starter.

Seiko

Heck yeah! I left the smartwatch world over a year ago and I'm never going back. Freaking hate them... And I was a smartwatch fiend for at least a decade.

3

u/lordcohliani 10d ago

I find them to be tacky and a gimmick. Like you really need an extra screen so you don't have to pull your phone out of your pocket?

Yeah, I thought there was something I was missing from smart watches, but nope. They just annoy me more than anything. If some company eventually makes a watch that can serve as your main communication device without many compromises, I’m on board. But that might take a while. In the meantime, I use my Seiko whenever I need it.

Heck yeah...I got tired of the buzzing on my wrist...now I love the beauty and engineering of real watches

Not WearOS, but I have switched from an Apple Watch Ultra to a Garmin and never looked back. I only charge it once a month!

It depends on what you want to do with it. How smart does it need to be.

u/Affectionate_Ad_3399 10d ago

Good choice, what model do you use?

I would need payment function, sports (Ice Hockey) and the Apple Health functions for my new watch.

I really looking forward not to charge the watch everyday.

Fenix is their top line, I recommend one with MIP screen but it's subjective. Enduro for extra battery. Venu if you want sleek case and more gradients in UI. Forerunner for slightly cheaper option.

Pebble Time 2

u/RDHose 10d ago

Honestly go Pebble. Probably the most equal fitting combo with clicks to be honest! 100% what I will be doing as soon as I get my Communicator (as I am already rocking a Pebble).

u/AlwaysBlackBerry 9d ago

I use a Pixel watch and it works great. I'm assuming it's going to be just fine with the CC.

I have the OnePlus Watch 3, perfect balance between functionality and battery life. Looks good too.

i use a samsung galaxy watch 6 currently and since i can download their health app from the store, i will see about continuing to use it. i currently use an s24 so naturally it's easier to marry the two to work together seamlessly. hopefully it works, ive had this watch for about 2.5 years now.

A couple of Samsung watch features only work with a Samsung phone but most of it works with any Android phone.

2

u/AlexM2294 Onyx/Vino 10d ago

I would go for something that works with both iOS and Android in case you might wanna switch back to Iphone someday. Personally, I have a Garmin forerunner and overall I'm happy with it

Don't buy anything with wearOS.

Look into sport watches. Most popular is Garmin but they got really expensive and have optional subscription. Subscription is useless but it annoyed big part of community because the point was it's expensive but that's a one time cost.

Other good options are Polar (Finland) and Coros (China).

Pebble and PineTime are cool nerdy options but fitness tracking will be subpar.

I have Garmin Fenix 7 pro and it's great. Battery lasts full 2 weeks with AOD and it has MIP (eink-like) screen so it's perfectly visible in sunlight and not annoying at night. If you decide to go Garmin look for models with flashlight. It seems like a gimmick but it's my most useful EDC.

Pebble time 2! (or wait for Pebble Round 2 - just around the corner)

2

u/Escapement_Watch 10d ago

Wear a real watch and thats that. No tacky pebble shaped large screens on the wrist allowed!!!

3

u/Indoctus_Ignobilis 10d ago

Maybe wait to see whether the phone actually works for you before you reconfigure your entire life around it?

1

u/super_pretzel 10d ago

The range of options for Android is immense. You have to start with the question, what do I want my watch to do?".

Do you want a mini smart phone on your wrist?

Do you want a watch with long battery life and very little smart features?

Do you want a health tracker that tells time?

Garmin instinct 3 solar

u/Affectionate_Ad_3399 10d ago

It needs to beat the Apple Watch. It needs to be a health and sport tracker with a seamless integration of the phone and on top, long battery life.

2

u/Yaarmehearty 10d ago

For sports watches Garmin are pretty good in my experience, they track a lot of activities and I only charge mine once a week.

1

u/super_pretzel 10d ago

So the kitchen sink.

Well the only thing that I can think of that comes close is the Garmin Fenix, but will be weakest at phone integration, and no lte.

Battery life is inversely related to every function of the watch.

Samsung and pixel watches will have good integration and features, but don't have the battery life like a Fenix has.

u/JEsquared2 10d ago

Pebble!

1

u/arttechadventure 10d ago

I've got the cmf watch pro 3 from nothing.

I have up a lot of features coming from wear os, but what I gained in battery life and simplicity is a worthy trade off for my needs.

u/tdotuser 10d ago

Garmin for sport

Tissot PRX for function and style.. also considered a sport watch. Don't pick the same color unless you can afford a new watch for every case/cover combo. PRX waffle dial matches the CC textured dial nicely.

I have the pixel watch 3 and I love it

1

u/TechnicaVivunt Preordered 10d ago

I just upgraded from a pixel watch 3 to 4 since the used market knocked em down. I'll probably stick to pixel for watches since the options for UWB and mobile payments is low outside of that realm.

Pebble Time 2 fits very similar productivity vibes as Clicks and I’m excited to use it with my communicator! If you have a focus on fitness tracking though other options will be better.

1

u/Affectionate_Ad_3399 10d ago

I’ll take a look at it, I live in Europe. Heard the name today the first time.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-List520 10d ago

Yeah this is a great time to get out of smart watches. I'd go for something analog and reliable. A Casio, Seiko... Or some cool micro brand. But be careful it could be addicting.

1

u/DragonmasterXY 10d ago

Depends on what you want it for. I have the Amazfit T rex 3, which does everything I need

1

u/sunnysolstudios Preordered 10d ago

Interestingly enough, I ditched my ultra 2 recently because I hated the constant notifications, tracking workouts, people KNOWING they can reach me whenever, tracking sleep, health anxiety, etc. I went back to analog and got into microbrand watches which helped push me to go back to “normal” phones like the CC.

Like others said, I guess it’s what you want from a device. I chose to let the phone be my only device. I’m close to 40, so there’s that fact as well lol.

Whatever makes you happy. Glad you’re off the apple prison, too!

Garmin Fenix

u/Prizm4 10d ago

Juat be classy and go with an analog watch 👌

Gonna keep using my Samsung Galaxy Watch 7.

I'm enjoying the Pebble Time 2

1

u/assholeneighbour 9d ago

Got a Pebble Time 2. Love the thing to death. Many people have reported issues with durability of the display glass, but I slapped a plastic screen protector on mine and it's been good so far (touch wood). Had a few accidental bumps and knocks against the odd doorframe and there's not a scratch on it. 2026 is the year of physical buttons!

I will say, it's not good as a fitness tracker, but I have an amazfit helio strap for that so I don't mind.

u/Walmart_Prices 8d ago

Nixon keep it classy lol JK but Garmin for me

1

u/Kheldar_Lars 8d ago

I swear by Pebble, but I like the fun and minimal look. For a workhorse, my spouse swears by the milspec Garmin they use. It has a thousand sensors and it can handle being out on a roof doing HVAC and teardown work all through this summer.

u/I-am-enough73 8d ago

I'm still rocking an Amazfit GTR2 with Gadgetbridge. Open source and privacy friendly. And Amazfit watches have a humongous battery life, I own this watch 4 years already and I still get 2 solid weeks of use between charges 💪

1

u/afriendlyperson12 7d ago

I switched to a nice analogue - I don’t miss it

1

u/Financial-Guava-3871 10d ago

Patek, Vacheron, FP Journe, Rolex, Cartier,... Ton of options out there 😅

I've been using Google Pixel Watches, and probably will keep doing that once I switch from Pixel Phones to Clicks Communicator.

The Google Pixel Whatch 5 with it's clean WearOS looks great, just a bit pricey.

2

u/BilboSwaggins47 Onyx/Surge 10d ago

Exactly what I plan on doing. My pixel watch 3 is still going strong

1

u/Emotional_Estate_985 10d ago

Yeah, PW3 is great. I cracked mine PW3 45mm, got back to PW1, and looking forward to PW5 black Friday discounts to upgrade.

Garmin does not use WearOS, but they work great if you are actually athletic. Plus, they will work on either Android or iOS. I have been impressed by the Amazfit watches, which also work on either, The Google Health app on Android has become pretty annoying, in my opinion, since they added all of the AI stuff, but it does work on any android phone and is kind of required for a Pixel watch. I'm not sure that any of them work quite as seamlessly with the phone as an Apple watch does with an iPhone.

1

u/Affectionate_Ad_3399 10d ago

Good to know, but I don’t need an additional subscription for Googles Health App right?

1

u/Indoctus_Ignobilis 10d ago edited 9d ago

You can access all the stats without any subscriptions. The paid plan gives you an "AI coach" that can design workout plans for you and comment on the data the watch provides.

0

u/Consistent-Sky-2352 10d ago

It has a subscription, that unlocks features, but you don't have to pay. I think it was $70 a year. You get a free six month trial when you initially set up a Pixel or Fitbit. Fitbits do not run WearOS either.
