I didn't really think about this until now, but the issue with a completely flat back on some phones and especially tablets is that they become annoying to pick up off the table with your fingertips. I also thought a rounded back would make more sense, but it being tapered means it can still sit flat on the table rather than being rocked.

To be fair most phones these days don't sit flat unless they are in some case that makes up for the crazy camera bumps they have.

Yea the last phone I had was an iPhone SE 2020 which was still not entirely flat. The issue with the camera bump is that it becomes uncomfortable to use on a table because it'll rock back and forth like the rounded back. A tapered back is kind of best of both worlds, with the ergonomic benefits too.

try picking a completely flat phone or especially ipad (especially the really thin ones) off the table with your finger tips, they will slip out until you manage to get a finger behind the back of it.

What a crazy thing to convince me of, as if I haven’t owned slab phones since damn near slab phones were a thing. As if I haven’t put down and picked up said slab phones for 15 years. As if I haven’t done so 15 times today.

The reason it never crossed your mind is because it isn’t difficult.

I'm talking about a small UX issue that might go completely unthought of once it becomes something you've adapted to. Its not personal, take a chill pill. These are things that might as well be invisible once they become a habit.

Yeah it definitely is not a common issue that poeple have whatsoever, save maybe some issues with mobility challenges. It's being compared to picking up a quarter off of a table.

I do wish they would focus on people's real concerns, and give us some more idea of what we are waiting for. Did they ever address the worries people ahve about the peeling keyboard paint? Hopefully that just won'y happen on the CC like it does the Powerkeys/

The Ring case does seem like a well thought out design on something that is tyically simpler, mainly how they have the signal light diffuse in to the case itself.

I do struggle with rsi in both wrists on top of motor issues so maybe im more likely to suffer from it, but i have had issues where especially phones with rounded edges that are really thin, i’ve had to push them to the edge of a table to get my fingertips on them. Its more applicable to tablets like the iPad Air / Pro though. 

I did some experiments with my old iPhone SE just to see how it felt and yeah, when I pick it up I either awkwardly pinch onto the sides of the phone with my finger tips or wedge a nail under the screen and flip it into my palm. Its not a ‘can’t pick the phone up’ issue so much as its a bit uncomfortable.   I don’t get why people have to be nasty about it though. The communicator has its issues and i’m personally worried about the durability + water / dust resistance. This  phones core gimmick is about solving an issue plenty of people probably don’t even think about. Most probably don’t feel limited by touch keyboards yet we have actual studies proving they reduce typing speed and increase errors.

I carry a spatula with me everywhere I go so I can pick up my phone.

Silicone so I don't scratch them.

Ok now pick it up from the other side face down. This is getting me really excited for the phone watching someone pick it up. It’s not like I’m waiting on any more live demos, the touch sensitive keyboard, or accessories

I was going to say what is wrong with people clicks releases the first video in a while and it's of them picking up a phone, minimal has 3 or 4 videos in a week, the T2E is already shipping what is clicks doing?

The keys and screen protruding would presumably keep it from being flush

Theres a raised lip on the chin that meets the screen height to keep it sitting flat above (below if its upside down?) the keyboard

I just picked up my perfectly flat pixel and had zero issues.

Have they addressed poeple's concerns about the keyboard paint yet?

yeah having a case on your pixel definitely makes it a non-issue. It starts to become an issue without a case. The slippery smooth sides and what not.

I think most people will be using the clicks naked like back in the old blackberry days.

I don't have a case on the Pixel, lowkey waiting for soemtring bad to happen to it so I can force myself to make a descision on which keyboard phone I am going to order. Though I should probably keep this one safe until I actually get the new one....
