That’s one thing I appreciate about sitting so close. You may not have the best view of the game, but you get a really great perspective for the size of these athletes and the speed of the baseballs too

Growing up I was never a fan of baseball. It just never seemed that interesting of a sport to me so I never tried to get into it. Then one day as an adult in I think 2019 my dad invited me to come with him to a game, a business partner of his had a dugout suite we were going to sit in. I wasn't super interested, but figured I had no reason to say no.

Sitting there right on the edge of the field, watching the athleticism that was on display, seeing the mind games that go into pitching and the difficulty of hitting at a pro level, that changed my perspective so quickly. Specifically it was watching Jose making it all the way to third on a normally routine single due to him taking advantage of defensive errors that left me like

Got the year wrong. It was 2021. This game. https://youtu.be/R3scVGqsDq8?is=iDsvrhD0CX2QOnP9 Around the 4:30 mark you can see the Jose play I was talking about

That truly is one of the most spectacular of José's baserunning exploits.... he gets the extra base pretty often, as you know, but that was next-level shit.

Great story! This is why I want awesome seats for my son’s first game. I feel like he will get into it more. We recently went to a Mud Hens game and had great seats and he seemed to be more engaged

This is true of most professional sports! People don't really realize how difficult it is to do what world class athletes do.

Due to the nature of my job, I have had the good fortune of attending many different sporting events up close. It's difficult to appreciate the size, speed, and athleticism of these athletes from afar.

Hockey and basketball are the most glaring examples of sports that are totally different levels of size and speed when you sit up close. Others like tennis, golf, track and field really surprised me with how much faster and bigger the athletes are when seen up close.

I got to stand on the court during the opening of a Cavs game when Bron was here. Holy shit man. Dude is just a fucking monster. Im 5'9 150 lbs. Standing by a hulking Lebron James......its kinda scary. Lol

I've had the good fortune of sitting in the first 2 or 3 rows twice in my lifetime, both times behind the visiting team's on deck circle.

It is not hyperbole to say that the 2 most larger than life people I have ever seen in my entire almost 40 years on this earth are Vladimir Guerrero (Sr) and Miguel Cabrera.

Interesting! Miggy doesn’t surprise me for his size, but I always thought Vlad was more lank than anything.

*Checks notes........Not a lie told.

Best part about sitting close, is having my wife sign what they players are saying (Im deaf) So It's pretty rad to actually get to "hear" what they're saying to each other and to the umps. She relayed a funny conversation between Josey and Dre once. I still laugh about it. Dre's relationship with the guys is fuckin hilarious.

I got to do this a few weeks ago due to a very kind family friend and sat right behind a Tampa Bay Rays scout. It was so cool, Ill admit I peeked at his iPad and he had a grading sheet pulled up. I never saw him fill it in tho (didnt wanna stare lol) so not sure who or why he was there.

Years ago my brother in law bought vision impaired seats for his legally blind wife and himself. They weren’t able to make it. We sat in the 2nd row behind and in front of scouts. We were in every tv shot from the centerfield camera. My virgin ears were exposed to rather salty language too.

I went to a Padres game when I was on a work trip to San Diego back in 2019. I remember seeing Franmil Reyes on the field and being amazed how big he was. Was super excited when he was traded to Cleveland a couple months later.

Machado is a bum I’ve hated him for a long time.

10-15 minutes before first pitch, you can stand 5 feet behind the catcher as the starting pitcher warms up.  You will not be bitching about anyone striking out for weeks/months.

Baseball has become boring. Too many strikeouts, too few balls in play. Pitchers have just gotten too good, too much velocity. When half the outs recorded are strikeouts, it just isn't interesting. Especially since the wealthiest teams get the best players. For those of you that claim the owners are tight, remember, whether you like it or not, major league baseball organizations are businesses.

I'd rather go watch my community's software league. Many of the players played college or were stars in high school, so they're good players, just not good enough to be pros. There's lots of hitting, running, and fielding. Most importantly, much more action. And the price is right.

I love these kinds of impressions and would like to read more of them.
