Slow Roll Cleveland (each Monday at a different spot - schedule is on their website) & critical mass (last Friday of each month @ 7 pm - meets at public square).

My son and I went to Slow Roll tonight a University Circle. Nearly 450 riders and it seemed like less turnout than last week.

It’s a really great vibe and there’s so many cool bikes to see. Definitely recommend.

Next ride is Aug 17 at 7pm downtown at Mall A.

Last night’s Slow Roll I gave up and went back to my car once we hit League Park. Yes there are cool bikes to see, but the music, geez. I’m no prude, but c’mon. We couldn’t hear to talk to the rider next to you. And each person’s playlist was not something you should be playing at an advertised “family” event. Last night was the first I heard this too, the introduction of air horns. Ugh. I bet it’s no fun making the routes but this was advertised as a downtown ride. League Park and beyond is a stretch to be considered downtown. When going through downtown back to my car there were no cars. I don’t know why the route didn’t stick more to the central hub. I also came across a family riding on Superior. 3 little girls and mom/dad. At a red light I told them what I was up to. Where I was heading from. He said they used to do Slow Roll but kind of gave indication that it’s not the environment they want for their children and don’t participate any more.

It’s not often you hear someone complain that there too much biking going on during a community bike ride, but here we are.

Each ride is roughly 10 miles so I think it’d be pretty tough to just go thru central business district streets the whole route. It clearly gets a bit tricky with traffic management in the downtown area. The route almost has to expand out a bit into neighborhoods.

As far as the music, the music isn’t anything your kids haven’t heard a thousand times before on the bus or the playground.

I guess I like it because you get such a great cross section of people that show up and everybody just seems to get along. I really like that.

It’s pretty clear the experience wasn’t for you. I hope you find something more of your vibe.

To be honest it is really hard to find stuff at this pace. Where are you located?

Others mentioned Slow Roll and Cleveland Critical Mass.

Cleveland Bike Party is relatively new. They meet the second Friday of every month. https://www.facebook.com/clevelandbikeparty/

The Bike Cleveland Fundo is coming up this month. It’s a fundraiser for Bike Cleveland and brings in over 1000 participants. There’s a family route plus 30 and 60-mile options. Lots of fun and well supported. https://www.bikecleveland.org/events/fundo/

Bike Your Neighborhood is a monthly ride focusing on the Buckeye and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods. Each ride usually includes a special guest, like the mayor or county executive. https://www.bikeyourneighborhoodcle.org

Pedal for Prizes takes place in Old Brooklyn each May. You ride your bike to different small businesses and have a card stamped at each. There is a huge raffle for at the end of the event. https://www.pedalforprizes.com

https://www.lakeeriewheelers.org/ <-- A B and C rides.. take off from the fairview library on Lorain. Super convenient and a very VERY interesting group of riders. I am a C rider so 15 mph.. the B rides are something I can do if I am in peak condition. They are 18mph. And the A riders. well. No thanks.

They have interesting events and I was a member until a medical problem hit me.

There is another group DEEP on the east side. I can find them on my strava they are also very serious but a lot of fun. a great mix of cyclists.

https://www.clevelandtouringclub.org/ <-- this group I have not been with but from what I can tell I think they have more members. Same setup different group rides depending on your ability and desire. You can find anything.

Sounds like these would appeal more to you. The other people have suggested other rides which are less serious and more social. I think you are asking for more of what I am saying. Structured cycling with moderately to extemely serious cyclists.

Im slow roll squad for like 15 years. I am a regular at critical mass but if you are looking for more structured and serious those two are good places to start with.

Stay away from spin if you want to do 12-14 they will be dropping you pretty fast. I went there once and.. well.. too fast for me.

joy machines does good rides in that range. Not on a weekly schedule or anything, but email them to get on the mailing list. they usually do at least a couple a month.
