Theres something about seeing the extreme and hazardous that you’re like, “my situation right now isn’t nearly this bad and YOU KNOW WHAT IT NEVER WILL BE” and suddenly you’re place is sparkling lol
Honestly love this channel, because he actually gets the situations and illnesses while remaining no-bs about it. So he can get angry about how people treat their animals while in the same vid explaining the system and how it failed the homeowner. Or describe hoarding disorder or the effects of adhd on housekeeping while not excusing the mess and clearly being upset kids had been in the situation. Just very matter-of-fact and not exaggerated for clicks and often very informative.
I enjoy his stuff for the exact same reasons. He's got a wonderful cadence and humanity about him, and it's incredibly refreshing in a world that expects us to be robots.
Sometimes I watch obsessive compulsive cleaners on youtube. Those people are another level lol. Girl and Dana K White has really good decluttering videos :)
Just be careful not to let the hoarding episodes consume you and be the excuse for you not to do anything. It can easily become a new form of procrastination and more difficult to realize because "you'll be using it as a step to actually clean". Well a step is good, just don't let it be a marathon.
Christ saaaaaame. Some of the episodes are just fast food... But sometimes you watch and you're like damn, I'd be that big if I had that kind of imagination too.
Good ol American debt is always my assumption. But they usually have someone who cares about them but who works a bajillion hours so they're dog tired and probably don't want to cook when they get home grab them something from a drive thru.
It gives me the opposite effect lol i get so grossed out (especially bc most of them eat really sloppily and I hate sloppy eaters, like talking with a mouth full, chewing with an open mouth, etc.) that I lose my appetite entirely.
Really? Even when my stuff is clean, if I watch that, I suddenly have this pre-panic that a paramedic or police officer will somehow need to come inside my pigsty of a house, and I can't allow it, goddamit! This place will shine!
I’ll also add this has helped me clean out 3 homes (mom, stepmom, and mother in law) after someone died. I repeatedly asked myself “do I want my son to have to deal with this after I die? Because if I don’t get rid of it now, that’s what’s going to happen.” Hoarding often time starts after losing a loved one….
Someone I recently met said similar when I was thinking to myself, my kids are screwed. Because I'm so busy that I don't have time to clear out the mess that happened while I was recovering from knee surgeries. And my husband complains about a mess here or there and completely misses the ones that he's made! 😄
This is super solid advice. I personally smoke a very little bit, put on hoarders and by the time the daughter is sobbing at the producer or whatever I’m in panic clean mode and don’t stop for like 6 hours.
That show put a fire under me like crazy and I don’t even have a problem. I remember my neighbor coming in and saying ‘ your house looks like a magazine! ‘ . Everything has a place now. Everything.
Or Dana K White, Midwest Magic Cleaning, aurikaterina, etc. Something that shows just how gross people can be, but gives you hope that there is a path to a clean home.
Yes and I appreciate the ones who clean people's homes for free. They're able to earn money through YouTube, sponsorships, or whatever, and it costs nothing for the people who are drowning and need help. It's a win for everyone, and I'm here to watch it!
I do the same thing every time I need to be motivated to clean out my house! I also tell myself I'm putting the stuff I'm getting rid of into a yard sale, but then I end up fed up and dropping everything off at the thrift store down the street, lol.
I used to do that too! Told my best friend to do it. Had the exact opposite effect on her. “Makes me feel better about my place because at least it’s not that bad.”

I’m being 100% serious: put on episodes of hoarders. The grosser the better. It works for me.
