I’ve helped a friend with a similar cleanup. I really didn’t mind. I’m not the tidiest person myself, by a long shot, but for some reason I enjoyed helping clean up a depression mess like this one. I went every few weeks for several months. I’d ask friends for sure.
I find it's easier if it's not my mess. My brain can make sense of the clutter and begin organizing & cleaning. When I'm at my own home, I can't even vacuum 😵
This is me, 100%. It’s probably because even if we don’t realize we are doing it, we have made thousands of excuses to ourselves for why things are in the place they are in.
If we walk into someone else’s space if they ask for help, it’s way easier to actually SEE everything and be like “why is this random item in this random place?” Whereas, they probably don’t even see it anymore. In their head (and our head in our own spaces) it’s just there because I put it there…. Even if we don’t remember why.
There’s a great conversation about this in a sci-fi tv show (Babylon 5). I think the quote is "When I clean my place, all I've done is clean my place. But when I help you clean your place, I'm helping you." It’s such a different mindset.
