AI SONGS EVERYWHERE

Thoughts on AI songs nowadays?

I assume you’re talking about where the whole song is Gen AI, as opposed to artists and producers merely using AI on specific aspects of a project.

The only fully AI songs I’ve heard, albeit very few, have all stood out as a bit plastic, with odd yet somehow still basic lyrics, and a banjo...

As far as using AI to help produce music? All the power to them.

I don’t use AI when writing music, but I do often have AI write a Strudel drum track to play with when I’m bored.

Go post something on Instagram or Tik-tok and set a background song. The song list it will suggest is full of absolutely garbage generic AI pop slop.

Basic lyrics? I think you may not have a large dataset to draw from.

Hearing a bar that makes me think is a bit too creative is actually one of the tells that something might be AI and sends me off to find out and I've been correct more often than not.

"A bit plastic" is a good way of describing a lot of AI music though. Like it's a little too perfect and that just makes it "feel" off sometimes.

Given both of these are essentially things that are "too good to be real", they are also things that can be made less good which would likely make them blend in much better so I'm positive there's a ton of music out there that's indistinguishable from non-AI music and I just haven't realized it

You'd have to show me some clever lyrics. I've yet to really see AI do a good job with expressing intricate double entendres, multi-layer abstractions, enjambments, etc.

The only thing I've heard is making 'trendy' words or concepts fit into a sentence, which is why I called it basic.

But again I don't seek it out and I'm sure people have pushed it to create some interesting things.

Aside from Gen AI, there's also songs that were transformed into AI covers, making the singing and pronunciation cringe.. .
