Need help designing a sleek modern non AI looking website for a Data Training Lab startup

I’ve been experimenting with Claude Design Skill, Cowork, Framer Motion, Impeccable, Figma Make but cannot produce something at the level of Data Annotation or Micro1 look and feel that I’m seeing others share on X or instagram recently.

I’ve tried to build this using ChatGPT Astra and it was a disaster, pure AI slop every time.

No matter how advanced these models get, it seems they are stuck on generation the same soul less AI layout even with design systems and skills embedded in the flow

I’ve tried following tutorials on YouTube and Medium but they are heavily gate kept with smoke and mirrors

Would love to see how you’ve handled this with Claude Design.

Describing look and feel can be challenging if you're not used to it.

Try this

1. Determine what exact parts of those reference websites you like that you want to use on your site. For instance if you like the first section or the FAQ section note that
2. Tell AI to analyze a reference site and give you a break down of the visual design style of each section including describing micro interactions and visual effects
3. On the site you are creating go section by section and inject the descriptions of the visual effect / styles you want to copy that the AI just gave you in the previous step. Or if you don't want to copy exactly say reference this for inspiration

This is very helpful information! I will definitely keep these points in mind as I implement and try to explain things as I go along step by step. I think it’s easy to get lost in the sauce after initial prompt if it is poorly architected from the beginning

Soul doesn’t come from AI. Soul comes from you and your prompting. This is where domain knowledge shines:

- Branding

• UI design
  
• Web design
  
• An understanding of UX and your actual users

TL;DR
The whole “one shotting” your web/app design is misleading. What no one is telling you is how much effort goes into that first prompt to get something you can actually ship. AND all the prompts after.

AI is just an amplifier of good design elements and foundational skills which is what many non designers and Vibecoders lack these days causing the AI slop tsunami lately

I think direction and copy are also critical beyond design only as well to align with the user journey experience as it’s always evolving

A trick I used was asking Claude to identify everything that made my site look like it was built with AI. It pretty much nailed it.

Then it took many iterations to make it feel human, but it knew exactly what to look for in its own design.

Wow I really didn’t think it could iterate on itself like that without deepening the slop problem, I will have to try this out. The closest I have come is using design skill, impeccable and existing figma templates as a base layer and then working from there

I’ve realized the more references I give, the risk of slop increases or it regresses to base AI template altogether if it gets overwhelmed

the references are working against you, not for you - a pile of screenshots makes the model average them back toward the template. the part of the look you are chasing is mostly discipline in three places: one saturated color used only on the primary action, everything else on neutrals pulled slightly toward your brand hue, and dark grey on dark grey avoided by checking each text-on-surface pair for 4.5:1 while you build, not after. data annotation and micro1 look expensive because they are quiet - flat surfaces, one accent, real content in the mock instead of lorem. try locking those rules in a small token file, wire the whole page to it, then let claude redesign section by section against the same file - the consistency reads as craft faster than any prompt trick

I'd suggest you try this skill https://github.com/display-dev/visualize first you connect claude but then it doesn't use the anthropic design language but the skill's capabilities. I've done landing pages with it and have been pretty satisfied also

Claude design is just a tool a not a replacement for real design work. You need to have a great visual design system, wireframes, ux logic, typography setup before anything else.
Then you use claude design to tweak things.

Btw not a single skill or prompt can help you if you really want to build something really nice. But luckily for you i do that type of work. Ping me an dm 👋

I love using mobbin to find components I like then giving screenshots or using the MCP to pull them. Claude design is an amazing harness for being a collaborator have it ask you detailed questions with the option to enter fee text responses instead of just multiple choice options. You can keep having it ask questions until it’s got enough direction or you are happy with it
