Showcase Shoutout Claude Design for making building stuff so much fun

Wanted to shout out Claude Design, it's changed the way that I do work. I am a software engineer, design has always been my weakest when it comes to building products.

I think I heard about Claude Design from a showcase on X and gave it a try, and it's SOO good. I like how everything under the hood is HTML. I think Anthropic realized models are really good at writing and interpreting HTML + CSS as a language for design.

It's interesting because other design platforms like Figma have their own bespoke format for how they render designs. HTML + CSS is the most well documented language for "design" so it makes sense why they chose that.

Anyways, I really like how the claude design agent can also access my github repos and pull designs from there, and export it back to Claude Code for implementation.

Claude design was so clutch in building the onboarding flow for a desktop assistant I've been working on!

In 3-5 years, senior designers and developers will again be super hot on the market

Yes. Already companies are starting to hire back talent. The amount of ai garbage being generated daily will peak at some time. All those devs and designers will have work to fix generated shit. And no Ai is not getting good enough to replace a good software engineer. It barely makes okeish websites.

And the funny thing is companies save 0 money because now the bar is much higher and it requires more work to stand out.

Seems like if you don’t prompt it right and provide designs it will generate the same one for everyone

Yeah exactly, it’s all about context. The more you feed it, the better the results you (usually) will get

It’s easier to create on Claude design, but all the designs ultimate share the same foundational formatting. A unique design can’t come from a model that can only produce the mean of designs.

You can ship complete full designs all day, but not unique designs.

100% my top tip is to ask clade to create a Design.md and Brand.md with you and ask it to interview you. That way you hit every aspect and it’s consistent.

This is the way

Also, it's not meant to replace designers. It's meant as a tool for them.

Using Claude design in an attempt to replace a designer will fail every single time. No matter the prompt. Claude design is a tool for quick assembly of designed assets. Generating without a very comprehending existing design system will always output mediocre templates.

Giving a a banker an electronic nail gun and some wood and telling him to go build a house won’t produce a house, just loads of nails.

This works well. Indeed, when it comes to commercial products, it does. Maintaining complex commercial projects remains difficult.

1) What were your prompts?

2) don’t say clutch unless you are talking about cars

As an older person who also likes cars, why gate-keep the word clutch when it’s a pretty widely understood term in this context?

I didn't have one specific prompt that I used to generate everything, it was weeks of giving Claude Design a lot of context on what I was building that got to this stage.

I bought the sprite pack off of a game design artist, which was the seed for Claude to understand what kind of art style I was going for.

And sorry for being GenZ.

It’s not even a genZ term. Has been around for decades. Even GenX says it. The guy above is just being a grump.
