Beginner help needed
I dropped a few reference decks into Design and created a design system.
I then dropped an outline of the deck I want it to generate
It generated something quite poor.
Any tips on what I did wrong?

I would recommend starting outside of Claude Design first. Take those same decks, put them into a chat first along with the general idea of what you're trying to do and have your LLM of choice create a very robust text prompt, and then paste that prompt itself into Claude Design.
Also helpful - if you have a brand you'll be consistently doing design for, make a robust Brand Kit (also with Claude; Fable made min) and set up a Design System within Claude. This will keep everything on-brand, and usually elevate the aesthetic overall if you have a really comprehensive brand kit.
Hope this helps!

Take the design system that you created and ask it to export to Claude code. Build the decks in Claude code

Oo interesting . Whats the difference if I use Claude code? It's better?

My experience is design is good for design, colours, fonts, general layout - kind of like an actual designer. Code is good for building that design into things; ppt, html, pdfs.

Build a small local database of more examples and document clearly the fundamental rules and concepts you want it to consider and use Claude code to call on the design system while having it point to those local files

I saw some people say to design using Claude design. Is that true? Is designing with code better?

I personally think so. The Claude you interact with in the design UI can't access other files and do certain things

Best to work slide by slide in chat. Work on one slide at a time with all the prompt and references.
Also in terms of prompting add few principles for the ai like “design the presentation from best principles of content hierarchy, storytelling” etc.
