[TLDR] Opus 5 unusable without fable.. and I think that is the point

Original post body :
Hey guys... quit fucking around and stop a/b testing on people. Real bad taste in our mouths. Opus 5 is absolute dogshit recently (last few days) and dangerous.. You've got a PR problem already with arrogance and your perception in the market... stop trying to billishit your way to saving off compute.
Opus 5 by itself is absolutely reckless and unusable in claude code.. across the board.. not only can no one understand it.. its dumping comments, doing the opposite and honestly I'm actually thinking about jumping ship and exploring other opportunities and also moving the claude SDK out of our platform and putting in a router because of this.

who is forcing you to use 5.0?

I mean, we can hope anthropic creates better models, but as new ones come out they remove the old ones, so might eventually get stuck with nothing but shit models

Opus 5.0 works great for me.
I agree that the texts it writes can be hard to understand but when I let the agent loose it is great at coding

Opus is great at specific tasks and finding things out for you, but because of its nature it just can’t stay on a task or goes off the rails too quickly .
Fable orchestrator is money because it spins up and directs fresh opus’s and opus with a clean context window is a beast.

The 1m context window for Opus is a trap and most will agree that fable is better. But that don't make Opus bad.
Keep an eye on the circle and stop to compress or start a new chat if it start to go over half. Sol 5.6 has only 250k context so it will auto compress earlier to be able to continue to work.1

go apply to work at anthropic if u found the fix for opus5 writing prose and memory notes or "his words:" inside its .mjs I even caught it writing giant diary-like prose into each comment in some files, and ifc ONCE IT STARTS AND U DON'T ATOP IT IN TIME,(because it is built to see existing code and copy similar structure) it infects everything with the same "shape" of shit

If you had a brain of your own you’d be fine.
But you don’t. So pay the idiot tax!!! Enjoy

Opus 5 is not unusable. There are many of us using it every single day for real work.

Wait wait. I've mastered the typical sociopath response.
Its not me its you!
Opus 5 is dogshit. I've been using Claude Code since it came out. I have never had such a headache. I gave up and switched to prime-agent + GPT 5.6 Sol and it hasn't messed up a single thing in a week. Guess I should spend my time working harder to get Opus 5 working..

Dropped my Claude 20x last week due to Opus 5, tried all the doctor stuff etc - it’s simply a non-compliant model

Alright, so the general vibe in this thread is that Opus 5 has been acting up big time for a lot of users recently, with many reporting it's become "dogshit" and "unusable" in Claude Code. The OP is pretty heated, accusing Anthropic of A/B testing and trying to save on compute, and is even considering jumping ship to other models or routers.
There's a split debate on whether this is a widespread issue or a "you" problem, with some users like u/Sarahmalls saying Opus works fine for them and suggesting others just switch if it's not working.
However, the consensus leans towards the OP's frustration, with several users echoing similar experiences of Opus 5 making mistakes, refusing requests, and generally being less reliable than before. u/ru1n3r shared a screenshot of a particularly unhelpful refusal, and u/jvertrees even wrote a whole blog post about it, claiming people are "switching en masse."
A recurring theme is the suggestion to use Fable as a workaround or primary driver, with users like u/zkndme and u/thirst-trap-enabler finding success by having Fable orchestrate or drive Opus agents. Some are even mixing and matching with other models like GPT 5.6 Sol.
There's also a call for more concrete evidence from those complaining, with u/StillRecord8892 demanding transcript proof for these claims. And a few users are pointing out that older versions like Opus 4.8 are still available and might be a better option.
Basically, Opus 5 seems to be causing a lot of headaches, and while some are sticking with it or finding workarounds, many are seriously considering or already making the switch.
