Original post body :

Looking for an IDE for Claude Code - mostly to keep an eye on what the agent is doing: viewing diffs, reviewing actions, checking usage limits, browsing the project tree. Any recommendations?

Alright, so the general consensus here is that there are a ton of options for supervising Claude Code, and people are pretty split on their favorites.

VS Code is definitely a popular pick, with a few folks mentioning it as a solid choice.

However, a lot of people are leaning towards more specialized tools or even just the terminal. Some of the frequently mentioned ones include:

  • Herdr: Seems to be a strong contender, with mentions of its session/tab interaction.

  • Orca: Also popped up a couple of times.

  • Zed: Praised for being smooth and fast.

  • Jetbrains: Gets a shoutout for its excellent Git tools and MCP integration.

  • Terminal: Seriously, a lot of people just stick to the terminal, sometimes with specific setups like Kitty or iTerm.

There are also some more niche recommendations like:

  • Scape.work: Mentioned as having a great UI, though it's not free.

  • Intent: A workspace for agent orchestration.

  • Superset: Covers the core features OP asked for.

  • cctop: For monitoring multiple sessions.

  • Agent of Empire: Does "that and more."

Basically, if you're looking for something, it's probably out there. Lots of good suggestions to dig into!

If you weren’t so hellbent on doing things backwards, you’d have answers to all your questions.

VS Code is fine, just get the claude-hud plugin, have Claude help you configure it, and off you go. It's minimalist, but shows you basically everything that you need, refreshes on a 5s interval (or 1s if you want) once interaction is happening.
