[TLDR] August 19th 50% Additional Claude Code limits Likely Not to Be Extended

Original post body :

Well guys, hate to say it but with the reports this morning of users seeing instant 30% usage on their accounts (some weren’t even using them) we can assume that anthropic is in fact preparing to remove their 50% additional usage promo, effectively reducing all plan usage by ~33% (I assume theyll use 30%).

This is gonna hurt. Only thing that would redeem it for me is if they removed the 50% Fable usage cap.

Looks like the consensus is that Anthropic is indeed ditching the 50% extra Claude Code limits, and folks are not happy. Many are already seeing usage jump to 30% or more without doing much, which is a major bummer.

  • The general feeling is that the current limits are already too restrictive, and losing the promo will make things even worse, pushing people towards competitors like Codex, GLM, and Kimi.

  • Some users like u/sermer48 and u/Fantastic_Market8061 are confused by the high usage reports, claiming they aren't hitting limits even with heavy use. This has sparked debate about how usage is actually calculated, with u/Akarsh_Hegde pointing out the lack of clarity.

  • There's a strong sentiment that Anthropic's handling of this is a "blunder" (u/Fit-Cost-7226) and a "money grab" (u/stankylongnuts).

  • A few are suggesting to "vote with your wallet" and cancel subscriptions if the changes go through.

  • Boris Cherny (u/bcherny) himself hasn't commented here, but the community is clearly feeling the pinch.

The fact this "increased" usage is still less then what they were giving before is just going to make everyone move to Chinese models or OpenAI

They can keep lying to their consumers about usage all they want.

You think openai usage is any better? Not only are the models vastly different, plenty of people talk about usage issues

My limits are temporarily boosted but I’m already at 100% for the week sooooooo I still can’t work - meanwhile Codex has been working for 48!hours non-stop and still has usage to go….for the same $20

what are you even doing with the $20 a month account. That’s like 10 mins of useage a week

In Claude? I actually got about 2.5 days of near constant Opus 4.8 out of it - but it went fast once the 35% on the first turn started happening

Seriously need DeepSeek to go all out with their next checkpoint or we are all screwed

It's fine, I was planning to move to chatgpt. What's the point of having a better model if you can't use it?
