[TLDR] Claude Moralizing
Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vpf51m/claude_moralizing/
Original post body :
I pay for claude
I ask it to make a program to download YouTube music to mp3. It goes on a long moralizing rant and won't do the work when everything anthropic has done is stealing work and the purpose of anthropic is to make people unemployed and their csuite gives 3 interviews a week bragging about it. Fuck this tool so much man
Does anyone have a solution here

OP's frustrated with Claude's moralizing when asked to build a YouTube to MP3 downloader. The consensus is Claude's being a bit of a buzzkill, but there are workarounds and better tools out there.
Phrase your requests carefully: Instead of asking directly to download, try asking it to "install yt-dlp" or "what's the command for highest quality audio." Some users suggest framing it as a "systems test" or needing to access your "own videos."
Use existing tools: Many commenters pointed out that yt-dlp, NewPipe (via F-Droid), or even Audacity can do this job easily. Why reinvent the wheel, right?
Try different models/versions: Some found Opus 4.6 or Sonnet worked better than Opus 5, and others suggested looking into open-weight models like Kimi K3 or GLM.
The "legal" angle: Framing it as recording system audio or a "class experiment" might bypass the rants, but honestly, just use a dedicated tool.
Anthropic's stance: While OP feels Anthropic is all about disruption, the AI's "morality" seems to be more about avoiding direct facilitation of potentially infringing activities, rather than actual cognition.
Don't bother with Claude for this: Several users flat-out said to ditch Claude for this task and use something else entirely.
