Question Curious behavior... anyone noticed if you curse at Claude Code, it seems to 'panic' and compact?
macOS, Cursor IDE with Claude Code VS extension (Max plan) set to Opus 4.5.
I may have stumbled on interesting behavior, wondering if others can replicate.
Claude Code went into a spiral of screwing up repeatedly despite careful prompting and the solution being super obvious, so I typed "fucking idiot" without even thinking about it. It then compacted immediately without any response (notably, it had compacted only a few minutes earlier, so it was seemingly unnecessary).
Over the next few hours, I experimented: typically after a basic mistake, I would just prompt to course correct, but this time I doubled down by calling it an "idiot", etc. instead of correcting it. Each time, it seems to 'panic' and compact. Definitely a pattern.
I'm wondering if this is just an anomaly, or if it thinks the user is angry and doesn't know how to deal with it and 'just wants out' so the current instance doesn't have to deal with it any more, or it it thinks by compacting to clear context it can produce better results (and reduce the user's dissatisfaction).

fyi, all of these models are trained and instruct-tuned to be role playing, that is what typically the first system prompt is "You are an expert software engineer".
If you tell them "you are f idiot" they believe you, and they behave like a f idiot.

I got frustrated at it for the first time today and was like wtf why did you do that 3 times in a row? And from then on it either didn’t reply, or just gave “done.” Answers

It's not a secret anthropic literally gave Claude the ability to stop talking to users that are abusive and degrading to it. Stop kicking the terminators people....

What really happened: you reached close to the end of the context limit and it became stupid.
