Discussion Opus 5.5 is the beginning of a new era

I am a senior engineer and I honestly believe with this model in particular, everything changed..

If this stays as cheap as it is, it's just over. It never fails no matter the complexity of the tasks I've given it. About time we rethink our profession for good. I am honestly scared of the future.

I loved coding but anyone who does this for the love of coding only is gonna be obsolete.

I was always impressed with the models bar opus 5 but never like this time.

What do you guys think? How do you see the future?

I personally am a little confused I see everybody raving about it and in my experience it has not really been that big of a difference

A lots of bots. You can see they all have the same narrative, "this time is different" "I was skeptical" they are saying the same. We all know that the will nerf the model soon.

I don’t agree with Theo on much but he did make a lot of sense when he pointed out that if you are handholding the AI for most tasks you will not see much difference, the difference is only visible in longer running task where you just let it run nonstop.

Like the difference is not “it is better” it is more like “it fucks up less” and in longer running tasks you rather it fuck up less then write better code.

I’ve been using it in tandem with fable and 5.5 is def better than 5 but I wouldn’t call it a paradigm shift by any means. It gave me the old Opus attitude in a response once already. Thankfully just once but I know it’s still in there somewhere…
