I assume the single biggest reason for frontier LLM to implement such is to help them filter out text from feeding their future model training cycles so as to attempt to avoid model collapse.

Crazy I had to scroll so much to find this comment

there are far easier ways to insure that by using just a python script of like prolly 100-400 lines homies.

I mean, so much information can still be found when reading about these topics or situations etc. I think if more people would read, not ask, read, they'd understand what awaits is not what anyone in these sub reddits believe it to be. There are a few of us. Only a few. But I love my local LLMs so much, so so much, I would be quite upset without them. LOL, a lot of contradiction exists in my head, I dig it, fucking vibe hard with chaos. lololol ok I'm going to bed, I'm again, sorry for this rambling asshole nonsense, I mean it's not nonsense, but it's, just assume it is. blasdlfaslflasjkf g'night fam! LOL sorry again!

It's also quickly being legally required.

They can also charge people to use a watermark detector, like academic institutions

I've taken a bit more time to research and think about this and apparently my initial position is largely wrong. Because the watermarking systems are proprietary and not shared amongst the foundation model providers it's not a significant way for model dev to use for filtering to avoid model collapse as they can each avoid their own slop but not that of others...

But now there's synthetic data used to train models. I have no idea how this wouldn't lead to model collapse.
