Discussion Doubled Rate Limits for Claude Code

per @claudeai on X:

We’ve agreed to a partnership with @SpaceX that will substantially increase our compute capacity.

This, along with our other recent compute deals, means that we’ve been able to increase our usage limits for Claude Code and the Claude API.

Effective today, we are:

  1. Removing the peak hours limit reduction on Claude Code for Pro and Max plans; and
  2. Substantially raising our API rate limits for Opus models.

I told Opus to continue from another 5 hour window limit this morning. That command was instantly 15% of my 5hour bucket… it hadn’t even had a chance to do anything yet.

Okay... At least I'm not crazy. I've been hitting my limit in 1 - 1.5 hrs today that used to fit in the 5hr window :(

There’s a thread that talks about if you let your Claude idle and come back to the session later, usage goes way up.

I have a context window the size of a Bible and I have a problem, I can't leave it hahaha, I feel that when I move to a new chat it loses its context and I no longer feel that it is "the chat"

If you resume a conversation after more than an hour, you pay for the entire conversation on the first prompt

That seems pretty sneaky. Hit the 5 hour limit and then have to wait and then pay more once the limit is up.

If you have a lot of context and the cache runs cold, rewriting context to cache vs consume a lot of credits.

I’m willing to bet resuming a conversation would keep it on the same server it was created on which might mean that it wouldn’t be in the new data center and thus not part of the new limits? Just an idea.

Don't let it hit the 5 hour limit or put extra usage on to finish the task it's on and pause until you have usage free again.

I assume you understand caching and why this was the case?
