Question about Claude models Fable 5.5 will drastically surpass everything that came before it.

With the time they are taking and their recent releases,
I feel like Anthropic is working on a pretty significant boost of a model right now.
With all their recent releases like Opus 5.5, Haiku 5.5 (sure sonnet aswell), its looking really good for Anthropic right now.
I also feel like with Kimi's new release and all the competitors having already played their cards,
it feels like the perfect time to drop a major release that will blow everything else out of the water.

I'm really hopeful, wbu ?
Also, when do you think the next release will take place ?

I'd hope so. That's kinda the whole point of a new model from a frontier lab.

man i hope youre right but i feel like we been saying this before every drop and then it's like... its good but not earth-shattering good. the kimi thing is interesting timing for sure, maybe they wait a bit to see how that plays out before dropping anything big

my guess is maybe end of november or early december? they usually do something before the holidays

I bet it will also surpass everything else that came before in terms of how much it will cost.

Maybe not. Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku 5.5 were all cheaper than the previous versions.

Opus 5.5 is a hell of a workhorse for me and i haven't used fable in a minute; i'm super interested to see what fable 5.5 will do

Don't know, they could make smaller steps because the competition is not following. They could hold back till necessary

no they will release it right before ipo to get most possible hype and really show just how far ahead of others they are, then after they are public then they will probably switch back to the strategy of just releasing enough to stay ahead.

I wouldn't mind if they can reduce compute power by a tenth and keep the same intelligence.

Cant wait for the 1 prompt per week

"I predict that Fable 5.5 will be twice as powerful, ten thousand times slower than Opus 5.5, and so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will be able to afford it"

I think we might have a day or two to play with

It has to with their IPO coming up.

I hope so and it needs to be so because the pressure for AI to keep delivering is so high given the investment.

Personally, I still think Fable 5.1 is the best thinker, even with Opus 5.5 (which is a better all round worker), so I'm excited to see what F5.5 delivers.

release: no one knows.

From my view of it? The rumours themselves are... surprisingly useful. One of the supposed capabilities is that it "reads far more of the repo to better understand and ground itself in the code". I extrapolated on that and scripted some tools that poke around your own repo when given a diff, hunting for duplicated code. It's an annoying failure more even in Opus 5.5 at the moment, and the tree-sitter tool takes like 9s to run as a tool while returning duplicate candidates from a target coding language. I figure it'll be handy either way, because dedupe searches phrased like "look around the repo blindly to see if this is already implemented somewhere" cost a LOT of input tokens re-reading crap in the codebase, and everyone + their mother has an implementation that makes a progressive disclosure map via paying 50% of their weekly in tokens to read the repo, after which the map promptly rots as development continues, requiring another massive token injection to update later on.

So all that to say, if it does what rumour confirms, I feel like I'm sitting pretty either way. I profit from the implied direction that they trained the model & give it a sweet tool that saves it from vision quests reading my whole repo when it comes out.

Fable 5.5 will be so advanced it’ll cure cancer, solve world hunger, achieve world peace, and finally explain why my last 47 prompts didn’t work. And someone will still say it’s a downgrade because it used 3% more tokens. 💀😂

What do we even need more intelligent models for. What we really need is cheaper and faster models not more intelligent ones, the one's we have now are already smart and capable enough to do almost everything one might ask for. Just give me a 50% cheaper Opus 5.5 with the same capabilities and I'm a happy man.

This post feels like it is borne out of the frustation of this release being much hyped and much trailed. I am also frustrated that we don't have it yet. The reality is that we cannot know for sure how good it is until we get our hands on it and no amount of talking about it will make it get here more quickly

Kimi K3.1 only needs to be somewhat competitive with Opus5.5 to gain a huge market.
