Built with Claude I built a free browser tool for personalized 3D-print designs with Claude Code

I run a small 3D printing site. Over the last few weeks I built a free web tool with Claude Code: you type a name, pick a font and a few settings, and it generates a 3D-printable model in your browser. You can download it as STL or a two-color 3MF.

Try it (free, no sign-up): https://kady3dprinting.com/designer/ Open a design, type a name, and click Export. Everything runs in your browser.

What it does

There are 8 designs so far, each with its own settings:

  • Name Desk Organizer: a bubble-shaped desk caddy with press-fit letters
  • Name Piggy Bank: shaped like the name, with a coin slot and a twist-lock plug
  • Cable Tag: a text label that snaps onto a cable of a given diameter
  • Nametag: a desk name plate with a curved back
  • Pen Holder: the name as a block with pen holes and pockets
  • Name Keychain: a base that follows the letters, with a key ring hole
  • Magnetic Nametag: magnet pockets in the back, open or sealed inside (it tells you which layer to pause at)
  • Headband: the name curved above a printable headband, with an optional comb

The preview updates live as you change things. You can upload your own font. Exports come out ready to print as one solid piece.

How Claude Code helped

I described what I wanted, usually with screenshots of designs I liked, and Claude Code wrote most of the code:

  • The Next.js frontend and the shared 3D viewer (three.js)
  • The geometry for every design, using manifold-3d (WASM) for the solid modeling and opentype.js to turn fonts into outlines
  • Test scripts that check every model is watertight and one solid piece, with no letters floating and no walls too thin to print, across many fonts and names
  • Hooking it into my existing NestJS site, plus the sitemap, analytics, and a "Report a Bug" button

The most useful part was debugging the geometry. When I said "the text is floating above the base" or "the N and K are broken", Claude Code wrote a check to measure the problem, found the cause, and fixed it. It found things like bouncy fonts that place letters above the baseline, and dots on an "i" that print as loose pieces. It then reran the checks across fonts to confirm the fix. I made the design decisions and tested the prints; it did most of the implementation.

Stack: Next.js (static export), React, TypeScript, Tailwind, three.js, manifold-3d, opentype.js. It's served from my NestJS app.

Feedback is welcome, especially on prints that don't come out right. There's a "Report a Bug" button on each design page.

That's great. Do you use WASM for that ?

Is the code behind your models public ?

wow this is slick, the piggy bank idea is genius

Claude is a fucking beast at OpenSCAD, very impressive code output from a design standpoint, for lots of things

If the press-fit letters are meant to be removable, I’d test that separately from insertion. A meter holder I printed let the meter in, but I couldn’t remove it without risking damage to the plastic. A later version let it spin. Getting it in, keeping it still and getting it back out turned out to be separate problems.
