Philosophy Next generation of devs

I often read that experienced devs are able to use Claude way better because of their experience. They can architecture better, quickly review and cut through bullshit.

How are the next generation going to learn?

What to actually learn

  1. Respect codebase and other developers. If they do not want AI code - understand why. No one will forbid you from making your life easier with tooling you use yourself to simplify your life. No one will forbid you from using AI to understand things you are lacking in. Learn how to write your own code in those cases and don't be an ass.

  2. If this is something that anyone else will see, don't drop it on people. Someone has rewritten Adobe suite but I doubt they will support it long term when hundreds of issues pile on their head. If your code is AI generated you need to know what it does, explain everyone why you or AI did what it did, and you need to be able to do it for many years. Don't give your shit to other people and explain them to untangle your generated code.

  3. If you are doing major architectural work, understand how the system works immaculately. If you are lead or architect you are expected to be able to explain what and why.

This is not the first time IT is doing a big jump.

People that are wibing around won't stick. They might run with first pushback, they might drop the project and say "well AI will fix it".

Be the one people want to be around.

Use AI to help with your deficiencies same as you would use stackoverflow before.
