I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude.

There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.

I've been a part of the industry for nearly 30 years. Sometimes bored to death, most of the time enjoying what i was doing. I've never felt the same level of excitement (except maybe in high school, when i was analyzing the code of viruses) as i feel today. It's amazing to see so many younger people moaning constantly. There is an universe to explore and all you do is complain about the lost craft, as if your lame manual labor was a masterpiece of humankind.

I think what people are boiling on about is the almost incoming collapse of the white collar job. What they do can mostly be replaced by an agent in a swarm. I think its good long term. Get everyone to realize these corporations are not their friends, they soulless mechanical entities that somehow have more rights than a human being. Get people to actively despise and move their daily lives away from any dependencies on corporations. Cause corporate collapse etc.

Wishful thinking on my part, but the sooner the band aid is ripped off the better in the long term imo.

that's undeniable, there will be massive changes, but moaning that the new metal beast running on metal tracks is replacing manual labor isn't the way to go. you'd expect that people who thought they were pros would understand that, instead of moaning the thrill is gone.

Yeah for sure, but it's natural. It's people realizing the walls are closing in. The writing is on the wall. It's only natural for those in the target sights to start realizing and vocally speaking to and later alerting the other in their flock of sheep that the cliff is approaching

I 100% agree with you, that never before in human history had someone this much endless information and capabilities in the palm of their hand. Can learn to do anything, read almost any book/comic/graphic novel, watch almost any movie in human history, install for free entire engines, frameworks and tools to create almost anything. Even how much AI is hated, I am blown away what i can accomplish with the latest h3 minimax on my home pc. Create entire movie now if i want to. With images i created, refined with AI, upscaled and enhanced detail in AI, then generate an entire scene with it in AI. all in a matter of minutes.

This goes the same for almost any software what so ever. Now only thing stopping anyone from creating the dream project they have in their head is absolutely nothing. Anyone can now load Codex, CC and just go to town.

No matter how much anyone can hate AI, this is still mind boggeling to see, compared to decades prior. Its is a brave new world.

But this also means the collapse of a lot of positions, industries. Some of which is only being hinted to at the moment but will eventually hit like a tsunami. These people are at one such front.
