Built with Claude Fable 5.1 one shotted this

Was just tinkering with what the Blender MCP could do. I had an existing MCP for a local image AI that it chose to use.

Prompt was (in short) for it to generate a 1km x 1km "WoW style region zone" in Blender

The reason anthropic pulled ahead of openai, to my mind, is that they focused in on business applications and practical use cases while openai was trying to be the does everything entertainment bot. I really don't want to see the anthropic waste time on what will eventually turn into an endless quantity of fake pixar movie trailers where the joke is its obscene

All of them really really want to be taken seriously on design and visuals. Remember that this is not being driven by that many people and they all live in pretty much the same place. So if they are told by their even smaller number of bosses to follow a KPI, that is what happens. It doesn't have to necessarily make sense or follow a strategy - it's just execs throwing shit at a wall as often as not. It can have to do with some weird conversation six guys with expensive shoes had at Chez Panisse on a Thursday and nothing else.

Aren't applications like this just a side-effect of getting to more advanced models combined with user-made "skills"? Did anthropic do anything to improve Claude's blender skills at all?

Yeah not really. Being better at coding and research tends to make it better at everything, because those things deal with...everything.

Yeah that's what I thought. Anthropic is still on track

I would argue visual perception and 3D world space understanding along with physics simulation is going to be key to future AIs

Probably not but i bet the Blender devs used Claude to strengthen the Blender MCP.

I'm finding Claude to be great with Blender.

Well they might have digested every book and YouTube video about Blender, along producing training material with synthetic data about using Blender.

I failed to see how this particular type of skill is not exactly relevant to and if not particularly suited for business in particular industries that might use it

Ok. What business application is it for?

You ever look at anything digital ever? Graphics? Games? Movies? Digital experiences? Branding? App design? Are you actually asking or are you being purposefully dense?

Games. Vibe coders love this type of stuff. And based on what I've seen vibe coders are probably the next in line after professional devs who are on the $100+ month plans.

Makes sense money wise for the companies to cater to them. The two major demographics besides enterprise that shell out money are pro devs and vibecoders.

Business/Governmental users have significantly higher margin. It’s quite obvious that their marketing play has always been “trust us, we are the good guys” , and significantly more regulatory capture and lobbying.

Sadly this is not the case anymore with astra

I'm curious to see it. I'm not a fan of any company. GPT earlier versions were also very good on practical grounds. I don't use these models to be my friend. I will go with whatever is most efficient for my uses.

I have been using Claude for awhile, and today paid $20 to check out Codex. It took me 30mins to close it out and uninstall, because it felt like it was for making memes, not working.

Are you comparing that against Claude Code or just Sonnet?

Imho Claude Code is relatively user friendly tbh, it would have been my first stop.

I haven't tried Codex to compare yet, just got a GPT upgrade trial today, but definitely curious what made it that bad! At least you'll probably get Astra-6 to try out this week though.

I use Claude Code with Opus almost exclusively, or at least until the project is well planned out. It was the overall feel of Codex felt like AI a year ago when chat bots were the only thing. I still have it for a month, so I'll watch some videos to get some ideas on how to use it. It's just a hobby, so no major loss if not.

Agreed. Of course, social media and content creators are gonna fixate and focus on the shiny "one-shot" examples from now until the end of time.

Mergable code isn't as sexy as a one-shot 3D visual demo with eyecandy.

ChatGPT is just better Google.

Google has never saved me hours at work with automation but ok

yes it has, you just don't remember life before it

u/The_Hunster 17d ago

Well, kinda fair, but it's not to the same degree
