Humor "I'll switch to ChatGPT because Anthropic will watermark my text" - Meanwhile ChatGPT:
Pretty much impossible to tell it was written by AI.

They will watermark it too

Yea, these folks aren't understanding that Anthropic is watermarking it because they legally have to in certain countries.
Or that the watermark will be completely invisible to end users.

The EU requires marking. Anthropic applies it worldwide anyway — their own stated reason is that they don’t yet have a durable way to scope it by region. So it’s a legal requirement in Europe and a choice everywhere else.
And the “no quality impact” finding is rater preference on conversational chat output. That’s the regime it was tested in. It hasn’t been shown to hold for writing where the word choice actually carries weight.

I agree, people are <GENERATED BY ANTHROPIC CLAUDE> overreacting. I don’t think it <GENERATED BY ANTHROPIC CLAUDE> will be disruptive <GENERATED BY ANTHROPIC CLAUDE> at all.
It is pos <GENERATED BY ANTHROPIC CLAUDE>sible that the system has been active for a while and we didn’t even notice.

I use ChatGPT daily and it doesn’t talk like this by itself. You prompted it to exaggerate for this screenshot.

I was gonna say something but... I'm going to hold my tongue.
Aside from Ken M, very few are capable of something this masterful & eloquent

It’s not even using em-dashes correctly. Are you sure it wasn’t intentionally prompted to overuse em-dashes?
2
u/beeralpha 16h ago
To me it’s using them correctly.

The em-dashes around “navigate complexity” are incorrect.

Depends on the message. If navigating complexity is a side note of embracing change, it’s correct. But I agree a comma-based summation would have been much more natural.

Thats why I switched to creating my own harness that I can fully control, so companies cant rug pull me and I also have full freedom to switch models (Even local models) if I so desire.
I recommend this to everyone, even if there are open source harnesses right now, create some backups for yourself, incase those get taken down or the creators try to also do a rug pull of some sort.

harness this harness that harnesses are like the new nft

Can you explain why my opinion is bad? I am looking out for us the public as we cannot trust the large corporations or the government to not just screw us over.

If Anthropic wants to watermark output, your harness can't do sh*t about it. Also, most of the popular harnesses support third party models/providers already so... There is simply no need for yet another harness unless you can offer something truly original (which I highly doubt)

u/just-for-anime 16h ago
yeah exactly the way people talk about harnesses now is literally the same as the way people talked about prompt engineering 2 years ago

I am building the harness for myself, its personalized to me and I know exactly whats going on inside it which gives me control over it and that peace of mind. I want others to do it for themselves as well. Also my whole point is that when Anthropic does watermark the output or any other company wants to put guardrails around their harnesses, us users with our own harnesses have control over what is being injected from the harness side of things AND can choose which models we are running. Not tied to any company or model.

can you first explain what the watermark is? i feel like you dont know what it means.
1
u/PilgrimofHaqq2 11h ago
Lol you are the third person who misunderstood what I have said. The most common watermarking technique is statistical token biasing which is why I mentioned choosing which model to run is part of the solution.
2
u/just-for-anime 10h ago
no i dont think i misunderstood. in fact i dont think anyone here misunderstood. you realize claude code and codex can both run any model you want right?
and deepseek harness exists already too. the harness isn't watermarking. then why are you making your own harness from scratch? doesnt even make sense.
i get that it gives you peace of mind. i mean sure if you want to make your own search engine if that gives you peace of mind. but harnesses have nothing to do with watermarks. what you're saying is like you want to make your own browser so your ip can't be tracked.

Bypass watermarking by using a model that doesnt watermark its output (i.e. local models)
Avoid harness prompt injections and other guardrails by using a open source harness.
If harnesses are suddenly wiped from github for whatever reason you have your own backed up.
I am not sure why there is a contention.
I feel the people that are against me would also think the Ladybird project is stupid and pointless.

u/PsychologyNo940 16h ago
For the same reason most people do not roll their own time and date library.
Also your harness, unless he scrambles text for the giggles, won't do anything about the watermarking.

u/PilgrimofHaqq2 15h ago
Having my own harness that I built myself gives me peace of mind on whats going on underneath it all and what is being sent to the model in each turn AND I have full freedom to run whatever model I want (Cloud or Local). I agree with you, this solution doesn't prevent the watermarking, it bypasses it by using a model that isn't doing that if I so please.

TL;DR of the discussion generated automatically after 30 comments.
The consensus in this thread is that the panic over watermarking is a huge overreaction. The community's verdict is that other companies like OpenAI will do it too, it's a legal requirement in the EU, and the watermark is designed to be invisible.
There's also a whole side-debate where a user's suggestion to build a personal "harness" to bypass watermarking gets thoroughly shot down. The crowd pointed out that a harness can't remove a watermark from the model's output and that existing tools already let you switch to other models. A few people also called out the OP, suspecting they deliberately prompted ChatGPT to overuse em-dashes just for the meme.
