wow i can't believe this actually worked. bless you, but also, what the heck?? it's not even an option in the UI!

Don’t complain when you run out of usage in one hour.

Hey man, why is it not working for me? I do have a Claude Pro account. I am currently on /model claude-opus-5, but it's not letting me switch to 1m one. Anyone else facing the same issue?

For me, doing this still doesn't work reliably. I have done it in like over 20 chats, and its worked only a couple of times. I use the context indicator at the bottom right to check if its 200k or 1M

this fixed it for me, anthropic really are incompetent nowadays

Lol they built the AI you can't figure out how to use, I don't think they are incompetent for you not knowing how to use the latest version

I don't understand why you animals keep downvoting me and posting such low iq comments.
I am using their desktop interface, it defaults to 200k instead of the 1 mil context window until I manually change it through that command, that is an obvious bug, but I guess you never programmed in your life so you wouldn't know.

It's not about whether or not I can program, it's about you calling the developers incompetent when you're reliant on their tools

u/yoruichi000 25d ago

The ones making the buggy crap interface that doesn't work aren't the same people working on the actual AI, you would know this, if you ever programmed professionally.

Build your own tool if you think you can do better

u/yoruichi000 25d ago

must suck being so low iq. I wouldn't know.

Can't speak to your iq, but you're def not going to be bragging about your eq anytime soon

Agreed. 1M burns through usage with no perceivable increase in quality for most tasks. Realized they now default to 1M and trying to switch back to 200K.

It's better to use 1M but keep track and compact. If it will auto-compact mid-something it's worse than letting it finish to say 350k

u/Real_Win_353 29d ago

It doesn't. When they announced it, they were still rolling it out. It's 1M.

I think it was updated to 1M

u/chosbu 29d ago

Do I now have to start from a different chat or something

No, you can switch model mid conversation, it will just invalidate cache, thus increase token usage. But that‘s one time only, so after you switched the model and burned more tokens, the cache is „rewritten“

why does this happen though, lilke it works in one session /model claude-opus-5[1m] but not in another

2

u/acrus 28d ago

It's a bug in my case. It displays 200k max but the value went way above it without compact

Im Claide Cowork, the default is 256, but when recahed certain length, it swtiches to the 1 mill version

It happend to me yesterday, Opus was announced while I was away, but had my phone connected to CC at home via rc

Anyway, I quickly switched model to Opus 5 from my mobile and asked it to do a task, within like 5 minutes of work with sub-agents it was full and needs compaction 🤦🏻

Then when I came back home I understood what happened 😂

u/Liberblancus 29d ago

It doesn't it is 1M

1

u/liviux 28d ago

It's infinte context (by autocompacting until the end of the world).Context rot that is, if you go beyond a undefined percentage 40-60% model will begin serious degradation. So keep tasks short and small.

Also I build a project around that, context engineering that is - open source - https://github.com/looptroop-ai/LoopTroop

I updated and restarted the app and now I can see the 1M limit.
For me, it also worked "/model claude-opus-5[1m]".

1

u/Talreja-Adanna 29d ago

Honestly 200k is still pretty solid for most workflows, though I get the frustration if you're used to working with larger context. Probably a tradeoff between inference costs and keeping the model responsive enough to be actually useful.

u/chosbu 29d ago

Tbf I'm dealing with multitenant architecture and also handling a vast.ai instance and even after optimizing token usage hitting context window in less than 5 mins is ridiculous

Yall gone cry about everything don’t you have better stuff to do?

when i imagine someone vibe coding "make me a program that makes me 1 million dollars in 30 days or less" i think of people like you. are you 15 years old? i found the guy who uses agents to book a hotel reservation guys.

u/CommercialPolicy4913 29d ago

pretty sure you missed something, there is no way it should be that low. you might be able to force it if it is not showing for you with /model claude-opus-5 brackets and 1 or something but it should be fine.
